reocapture (test tool)

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@VoltTech21 VoltTech21 released this 24 Oct 23:58

A small test tool, separate from reostream. It records what the Reolink app asks your camera to do, so I can add features for cameras I don't have. Your normal setup isn't touched.

1. Download the file for your computer (under Assets below):

  • Windows: reocapture-windows-amd64.exe
  • Mac with an Apple chip (M1 and newer): reocapture-darwin-arm64 · Intel Mac: reocapture-darwin-amd64
  • Linux: reocapture-linux-amd64 (Raspberry Pi: reocapture-linux-arm64)

2. Run it from the folder you downloaded it to, with your camera's IP address and password (keep the quotes around the password):

  • Windows, in Command Prompt: reocapture-windows-amd64.exe -camera 192.168.1.50 -password "your password". If Windows asks, allow it through the firewall.
  • Mac, in Terminal: chmod +x reocapture-darwin-arm64; xattr -c reocapture-darwin-arm64; ./reocapture-darwin-arm64 -camera 192.168.1.50 -password "your password"
  • Linux: chmod +x reocapture-linux-amd64; ./reocapture-linux-amd64 -camera 192.168.1.50 -password "your password"

Leave that window open.

3. Add the camera a second time in the Reolink app: Add device, enter the IP manually, and use this computer's IP address (not the camera's), port 9000, and the camera's usual username and password. If the Reolink desktop client is on this same computer, use 127.0.0.1. Keep your normal camera entry as it is; the new one is only for the test.

4. Use the feature on that new entry (for example turn Privacy Mode on, wait 20 seconds, then turn it off). Then press Ctrl+C in the reocapture window.

5. Send the log. A file named reocapture- plus the date, ending in .txt, is in the same folder. Drag it into a comment on the GitHub issue. Then delete the test camera entry and the tool.

Video, audio and pictures are never saved, only counted. Passwords, logins, UIDs, serial numbers, MAC and IP addresses are removed from the log. Source: the reocapture branch.

  • Claim page: a wrong token no longer swaps out the password you already copied.
  • Claim page: the "where is the token" hint now shows a command that actually finds it.
  • Camera settings work on cameras with HTTP turned off: reostream falls back to HTTPS, and says which setting to turn on if both are off.
  • docs/setup.md: how to reset a lost password.
