LCARS_strip v1.1.0 — the GeeekPi release

The first version tuned on the real hardware: a GeeekPi 6.9″ 1424×280
touchscreen, racked 1U in a 10″ mini rack, storm on the radar.

Installed in the rack

New since v1.0.0

  • 🚨 RED ALERT — sustained red-zone metric or offline node slams a
pulsing translucent overlay (original RA-style art with a yellow/black
caution-tape frame). Tap CLEAR to acknowledge: the alarm stands
down, the fault stays in the marquee until the node recovers, and a
relapse re-fires. Thresholds are configurable ("alerts" in
fleet.json). Drill button in the ⚙ console.
  • ⛅ WeatherStar card — WS4000-style current conditions in the real
Star4000 face, rotating every 12 s with LOCAL RADAR from the
nearest NOAA RIDGE site (auto-detected). Free api.weather.gov — no key.
  • ENGINEER mode — pick needle / LED / scope per metric; conflicting
choices grey out (needles need the gauge grid, scopes need stacked
rows — one card can't hold both). Loadout persists per display.
  • Stacked bench-scope rows — cards whose meters are all scopes/LEDs
lay out as wide horizontal instruments. RETRO mode is now all
    oscilloscope faces with zone-colored traces.
  • Configurable panel title, header date + outside temp,
momentum scrolling (snap removed, fling physics), per-mode
    LCARS pill colors
, and the field-proven kiosk launcher
(kiosk/lcars-kiosk.sh: waits for X + panel, xrandr layout,
    touchscreen map-to-output, chromium kiosk).

Install (Debian / Ubuntu / Pop!_OS)

sudo apt install ./lcars-strip_1.1.0_all.deb

Upgrading from 1.0.0: install over the top — your
/etc/lcars-strip/fleet.json is kept.

LCARS_strip v1.0.0

First release — a retro fleet monitor for your home lab: needle gauges, LED
bars and CRT scanlines, watching everything from your newest GPU rig down to
a Windows XP box. Designed for the GeeekPi 6.9″ 1424×280 ultrawide
touchscreen (1U in a 10″ mini rack); runs in any browser.

Highlights

  • Direct-poll backend — no aggregation server, no cloud, no accounts.
    Pure Python stdlib.
  • Three node types: Linux (Netdata :19999), Windows 10/11
    (windows_exporter :9182 + optional nvidia_gpu_exporter :9835),
Windows XP / retro (SNMP Host Resources + ping)
  • ⚙ Node console — add machines by IP; SCAN auto-detects the type,
    GPU presence and basic specs
  • Touch-first UI — tap for drill-downs (specs, GPU °C, uptime, latency),
drag to pan, long-press to reorder cards
  • Per-OS node setup guides & scripts in nodes/ — including the full
Windows XP SNMP walkthrough (yes, including the i386 part)

Install (Debian / Ubuntu / Pop!_OS)

sudo apt install ./lcars-strip_1.0.0_all.deb

Then open http://<host>:8899/ and add your nodes. Other distros:
clone + sudo ./install.sh.
