Zephyr Mesh v0.2.4

Desktop replay apps for macOS and Windows, plus a big batch of new simulation results. Everything here is simulated. Nothing connects to a radio, camera, motor, flight controller or drone.

Fixes

  • The v0.2.3 tag failed to build on Apple Silicon (an older Swift compiler rejected trailing commas in generated code) and its Windows tests failed, so there is no v0.2.3 release. This release is that work plus the fix.
  • The Mac app no longer crashes at launch on Macs other than the one that built it. That bug affected every v0.2.2 Mac download. Checked by launching this release's Apple Silicon build on a Mac that did not build it; the Intel build is tested in CI only.
  • Windows builds now write startup.log and include README-Windows.txt to help with startup failures.
  • The in-app updater caps archive sizes, checks the release SHA-256 digest, self-tests an update before installing it, and rolls back on failure.

New simulation results

  • Control-side delay: a quadcopter's own position and velocity feedback can be about 0.33 s late before its control loop goes unstable. A hand calculation from phase margin predicts the same range. Delaying only the setpoint never made it unstable.
  • Recovery for a delayed tracker: turn-aware trackers, clock sync over a lossy link, a filter consistency check, and event-triggered sending, plus a map of which tracker tolerates how much delay and loss. Most cells in the map are ties, and no single tracker is best everywhere.
  • Radio layer: an ESP-NOW style channel and channel-access model. In this model the tracker fails from lost packets long before radio delay matters, and 12 drones sending at 50 Hz still get every packet through with retries.
  • Two micro-quad profiles built from published specs, wind, gust, ground effect and downwash models (off by default), and a tool that reruns every published result and checks its hashes.

Testing

  • The Python suite now passes on Windows too (1,628 tests on GitHub's Windows runner), and every branch push runs it there.

README

The README now leads with the question, a screenshot and results you can check yourself. Install steps, the full feature list, limitations and detailed results moved to INSTALL.md and docs/.

Downloads

  • macOS 14 or newer: ZephyrMesh-macos-arm64-v0.2.4.zip (Apple Silicon) or ZephyrMesh-macos-x86_64-v0.2.4.zip (Intel). Ad hoc signed, not notarized, so macOS asks once in Privacy & Security.
  • Windows x86_64: ZephyrMesh-windows-x86_64-v0.2.4.zip. Unsigned, so SmartScreen may warn. Extract the whole ZIP before running.
  • Each ZIP has a .sha256 file, and release-manifest.json lists them all.

All results come from simulations with literature-derived inputs, not measured hardware.
