5tratumOS 0.8.1 — Orbit

Your fleet. Your space.

Orbit brings a graphical desktop to 5tratumOS: independent app windows, a bottom or left app bar, window snapping, and a space-themed workspace. After upgrading, a full-screen welcome offers Enter Orbit or Keep Classic. Your choice is remembered in that browser and can be changed in Settings.

  • Arrange app windows side by side, in quarters where screen space permits, or across the full desktop. Original app management actions remain available from Apps and window context menus.
  • Choose optional widgets for fleet hashrate, physical miners, pools, recent blocks, MUX routing, CPU, memory, storage and network. Widgets align to a grid; use Arrange widgets to swap their positions. Transparency updates immediately.
  • Desktop and app menus support touch-and-hold, with movement cancellation to preserve scrolling.
  • Orbit and Classic share the normal device address; the temporary preview port has been retired.
  • Storage shows all reported drives. Worker and pool lists support mouse-wheel scrolling. Fresh MUX telemetry identifies one active route per physical miner where available; stale and standby readings remain distinguishable.
  • Dark, bottom app bar and static wallpaper are the new Orbit defaults. Keep existing preferences, select a custom panel colour with the graphical picker, or enable the optional Donut logo.
  • Enter 5TRATUSPHERE to see live miners, their relative throughput, mining activity and confirmed MUX attacks represented across an animated world. It is also available as an optional live desktop background.

Updates stay within your desktop

  • The System menu provides OS updates and App updates, with an indicator when a verified update is available. Applications with updates have a separate Review update action; opening an app still opens its own window.
  • Update screens follow the selected interface and logo. Each operation keeps its own title and progress, including when another operation starts.
  • Orbit observes system-scheduled updates as well as updates started from the desktop. Cancellation clears the progress screen; failures remain visible in OS updates.
  • After the OS reports completion and its services pass verification, choose Later or Reload desktop. The desktop never automatically discards unsaved browser input. Updated or rolled-back applications refresh their open app windows.

Orbit does not require a MUX licence. MUX-specific capabilities continue to use MUX’s own licensing and trial. Cockpit and game controls are future work and are not included in this update.

Update reliability

  • Explicit-version updates and rollback restore installed app proxy routes before restarting the portal.
  • Ed25519 signing and verification include compatibility with OpenSSL 3.0 on older Debian systems.

Updating

Open Settings → Updates, check your selected channel, and install the available OS update. After upgrading, choose Enter Orbit or Keep Classic; you can change this later in Settings. The interface choice is remembered in that browser.

5tratMux 0.9.47 and 5tratSmack 0.11.13 remain separately versioned applications. This OS update does not force a MUX reinstall, downgrade, licence change or trial activation.

Verification and compatibility

These OS archives follow the existing SHA-256 checksum verification mechanism and do not include detached signatures. The update does not change any device’s verification settings. Devices configured by their administrator to require signatures continue to reject unsigned archives; do not disable that policy to install this release.

The included verifier fixes Ed25519 compatibility with OpenSSL 3.0 for deployments that manage their own OS signing/trust configuration. An older enforcing verifier may need a separately verified local repair before it can accept signed updates.

Validation passed 152 Python tests, 176 Orbit tests, the separate i18n test, the OS/13-app translation gate, production nginx checks, exact-archive apply/rollback tests, and native DEV deployment with backup recovery and forward reapply. Physical iPad touch, optional local-console package provisioning and power-loss recovery were not exercised during this release review.
