music-tui v0.1.11
Changes
- The MPD config music-tui generates on first run now keeps MPD's database, state, sticker and log files in
~/.local/state/mpdinstead of the cache dir. Previously MPD refused to start once a cleaner removed~/Library/Caches/mpd(or~/.cache/mpd), and the saved queue and ratings were lost. - On macOS the generated config adds a CoreAudio (
osx) output with these settings:mixer_type "software". MPD's CoreAudio mixer changes the system volume of whichever device was the default when MPD started, so after switching to headphones the volume keys changed the wrong device, and devices without a volume control had no mixer at all.format "44100:16:2". Low-rate mono files, such as voice recordings, pushed Bluetooth headphones into call (HFP) mode.
- A failed volume change now shows
MPD can't change the volume: <reason>instead of only being logged. MPD's player error, such as an output that fails to open, shows as anMPD: …notice. - Troubleshooting docs gained sections on the cache-dir migration, the macOS audio quirks, and the no-mixer case. The visualizer docs note that adding a fifo output turns off MPD's output auto-detection.
Upgrading
Existing MPD configs are never modified.
- If your config was generated by an earlier music-tui, move the files from
~/.cache/mpdor~/Library/Caches/mpdto~/.local/state/mpd, updatedb_file,log_file,state_fileandsticker_file, and restart MPD. - On macOS, add
mixer_type "software"andformat "44100:16:2"to yourosxoutput.
Both are covered in doc/troubleshooting.md.
music-tui v0.1.10
Changes
- fix:
music-tui openskips files MPD can't play (such as a video-only.mp4next to the audio) instead of failing with "No such song", and the notice counts them - fix: modes that replace the queue (
folder, opening a folder, playlist replace, interrupt) no longer wipe the queue when MPD can play none of the files;openreports an error and the queue stays as it was - fix: an
interruptpreview that can't start no longer leaves amusic-tui-preview-*playlist behind - chore: clippy cleanup for newer toolchains;
rustfftis only built on Unix, where the visualizer runs
music-tui v0.1.9
Changes
- perf: much lower CPU while paused or with large queues (status and queue are only resent when they change; the 1 Hz tick is gone)
- fix:
ain the library appends instead of switching tabs - fix:
ein the library edits the selected track, not the playing one - fix: commands pressed while MPD is disconnected are no longer replayed on reconnect; connecting times out and backs off properly
- fix: the visualizer no longer spins while paused or on a regular file
- fix: library scans commit in batches, skip unreadable folders, and no longer lock other instances
- fix: lyrics with a BOM,
[offset:]or[mm:ss:xx]stamps display correctly - fix:
--no-playkeeps the chosen open mode; mute restores the previous volume - fix: the editor receives your first keystroke; panics restore the terminal
- fix: hardening of panic paths, file writes and terminal control characters in tags
- docs: README and all pages checked against the code (mode keys are
,r ,t ,y ,c)
Behaviour changes
- The render-mode override is now
MUSIC_TUI_RENDER_MODES.GALLERY_TUI_RENDER_MODESno longer affects music-tui. - The editor is picked from
$VISUAL, then$EDITOR(as in git). - Some theme keys that were documented but ignored now take effect; their defaults match what was shown before.

- Kitty covers render through occludable U+1 text placeholders: menus, modals and other overlays now draw on top of protocol images
Fixed
- Lyric up/down now step over whole bilingual timestamp groups, so an original/translation pair shares one cursor stop; plain lyrics became navigable line by line
music-tui v0.1.3
Added
?in the queue shuffles the queue- The visualizer recreates the mpd fifo if it disappears
Fixed
- Concurrent instances no longer corrupt each other: per-PID state.toml temp names, atomic cover cache publication, library.db busy_timeout=5000
- Recursive library scans skip .nomedia directories (Android convention)
music-tui v0.1.2
Fixed
- Queue dedup keeps the playing copy of a duplicated song instead of an arbitrary one
- The insert paths (open, :add, library append) no longer grow duplicates while dedup is on
