Wizard v1.0.13 fixes installing and upgrading on every platform. brew install works again, wizard update works again, and there are one-line installers for macOS, Linux and Windows that check what they download.

Install

Platform Command
macOS brew install Wizard-AIA/wizard/wizard
Linux / macOS curl -fsSL https://wizardw2.vercel.app/install.sh | sh
Windows (PowerShell) irm https://wizardw2.vercel.app/install.ps1 | iex
Windows (Scoop) scoop install https://github.com/Wizard-AIA/Wizard-w2/releases/latest/download/wizard.json

Then wizard --version, wizard init, wizard start. Archives and SHA256SUMS are attached below.

Upgrading from v1.0.12 or earlier

  • Homebrew: brew update && brew upgrade wizard, then wizard init (your settings are restored).
  • Scoop: scoop update wizard.
  • Installer script or PowerShell installer: re-run the installer once. wizard update could not work from v1.0.10 to v1.0.12 (see below); from this release on it does.

macOS fixes

  • brew install failed on every Mac with "Formula reports different checksum": the formula's hashes came from a local build. Package files are now generated from the release's published SHA256SUMS and from nothing else.
  • wizard init on a clean Mac installed the keg-only node@20, which Homebrew never links onto PATH, so the recheck failed. It now installs the current, linked release.
  • The installer used to edit only the first shell startup file it found, so a fresh Mac (no ~/.zshrc) had no wizard in new terminals.

Windows improvements

  • The installer preserves %VARIABLES% in your user PATH, no longer follows a junction when replacing it, and fails cleanly on Windows on ARM instead of requesting an archive that does not exist. Windows on ARM is not supported yet.
  • The update helper builds its junction correctly and rolls back if the swap fails; an interrupted update no longer blocks the next one.
  • The PowerShell installer works on PowerShell 5.1 and 7, tolerates AppLocker/WDAC machines, and applies NO_PROXY per host.

Linux improvements

  • The installer runs under dash and BusyBox sh (Alpine), picks the right archive for x86-64 and ARM64, and no longer breaks on [[ or echo -e.

CLI improvements

  • wizard doctor is a real diagnostic: pass / warn / fail with a fix for each, --json, exit code 3 on failure.
  • wizard uninstall, and --purge (alias --all) to remove the whole system.
  • wizard update recognises Homebrew and Scoop installs and prints their upgrade command.
  • Interactive wizard init: arrow-key dropdowns, keys shown as dots with a receipt, and models listed from what your provider actually offers, so nobody types a model name or a URL.
  • Python 3.12+ and Node 20+ are minimums: newer versions, and tools from nvm, fnm, Volta, asdf or mise, are used as they are. Only missing tools are installed.
  • Exit codes: 0 ok, 1 failure, 2 usage, 3 environment, 4 network. --help exits 0.

Installation improvements

  • Both installers verify the archive's SHA-256 before unpacking, run the new program before switching to it, and are safe to run again. WIZARD_RELEASE_BASE_URL points them at an internal mirror.
  • Releases include install.sh, install.ps1, release.json, and the generated wizard.rb and wizard.json.

Reliability

  • wizard update failing no longer leaves a working service stopped; slow downloads no longer hit a 20-second whole-request timeout.
  • Pressing Escape in a menu no longer freezes it; wizard doctor finds the backend on the port wizard start used.
  • An installed Wizard is identified by its own location, not by the directory you run it from.

Security

  • Archives are checked against SHA256SUMS (integrity, not a signature) and rejected if they contain unsafe paths or links.
  • wizard uninstall refuses to delete $HOME, /, package-manager files or git checkouts.
  • API keys are never printed, and never placed in a URL or an error message.

Developer and CI improvements

  • One VERSION file drives every version string; the release build refuses a mismatched tag.
  • The release is staged as a draft, installed and run on every platform from the exact uploaded files, and only then made public.
  • New installer test suites (sh/dash/bash, PowerShell 5.1 and 7, Alpine, macOS Intel and ARM) and a multi-OS release smoke and end-to-end run.

Known limitations

  • Windows on ARM is not supported yet.
  • Checksums verify integrity, not authorship; artifact signing is not part of this release.
