Alternative dragging visualization by expanding the widget freely while the "shadow" in the background is snapping, so kind of the opposite of what we're doing currently: 
That's a bit more work to do, and rounding this border meanwhile is a good step. |

How do you feel about making the border style solid as well? I find the dash a little noisy.
