Added automatic update checking on startup.
Player and playback
- Added buffering indicators
- Added banner artwork while playback is loading
- Added aspect-ratio controls to the Quick Menu at the request of u/kurohigetv and u/Swap16
- Improved playback recovery and decoder fallback behaviour
- Fixed a PCM buffer-reuse bug that could prevent AAC and E-AC-3 playback
- Fixed ambient mode appearing while watching media, as reported by u/kurohigetv
- Added subtitle timing adjustment controls at the request of u/Swap16
- Audio timing adjustment is planned for the future, but it is too much work for this release and I do not wish to rush it.
External storage
- Added folder selection for external USB drives and separately mounted storage
- Improved scanning and rescanning of selected folders
- Improved compatibility with NVIDIA Shield storage layouts as issues reported by u/Swap16 and u/kurohigetv
Spotlight and presentation
- Introducing rounded Spotlight! Enabled by default, but you can revert back in settings.
- Improved Spotlight artwork presentation and focus styling.
- Added clearer progress feedback during rescans and metadata preparation.
Known issues
- OpenSubtitles search works, but applying a downloaded subtitle may currently return HTTP 503. This is being investigated for v0.4.2.
- Audio delay has been removed temporarily because its experimental implementation could destabilise playback. It is planned for a future release.
The app tries to update itself to v0.4.1 upon every startup, despite that already being the current version.Fixed by using a new tag standard
How do I update?
In Aperture: Go to settings, and check for updates.
On GitHub: Download the apk and install over the top.
Please clear cache after installing, using either method.
This is an ALPHA release.
Aperture is actively being developed and may contain unfinished features, device-specific playback problems and unexpected bugs. Please report anything unusual!
Note
Please perform a full cache clear and rescan if you experience unexpected behaviour after updating before submitting an issue.
Support will only be provided for Aperture-v0.4.1-alpha.apk. It might not be given for users of the unoptimised debug.apk right now as it runs much slower and is designed for debugging only.
What’s planned for v0.4.2?
- Complete OpenSubtitles integration, including reliable subtitle downloads and account support.
- Implement proper audio synchronisation, including forward and backward adjustment.
- Continue improving player controls, buffering behaviour and audio-track switching.
- Add the redesigned ambient mode, with poster-grid and full-screen banner modes, an optional clock and Aperture branding.
- Improve sidebar and Back-button navigation across menus.
- Refresh the Aperture icon and introduce updated branding across the app
- Continue polishing experimental features, like and improving device compatibility
Stay tuned!
