FileManager 0.2.0

A lightweight, fast file manager for Windows with bounded memory use: no recursive watchers, no recursive folder sizes, byte-budgeted icon and thumbnail caches.

What's new

Views

  • View modes: details, tree, list, and M / L / XL icons. Switch with Ctrl + mouse wheel or the picker in the new info bar (folder and file counts, preview pane toggle).
  • Tree view expands folders in place; only the expanded folders stay in memory.
  • Native Windows icons and shell thumbnails for images and videos, loaded on background threads.
  • Preview pane (Alt+P).

Sorting

  • Click a column header to sort, click again to flip the direction. Sorting is per tab.
  • Keep the view and sorting for a specific folder (right-click a column header or the view button, or use the one-time snackbar). Kept folders are marked with a pin and a bold header.
  • "Show hidden files" is now "Hide hidden files", with a crossed-out eye.

Sidebar and tabs

  • Favorites (add from the context menu, reorder by dragging) and drives as collapsible sections. Resizable, collapsible with Ctrl+B.
  • Tabs: drag to reorder, drag outside to detach into a new window, drag onto another window to move there. A floating preview shows what a release will do.
  • Ctrl+N opens a new window. Double-click or middle-click a sidebar folder to open it in a new tab.

Navigation and menus

  • Address bar: click to type a path, with folder autocompletion.
  • App context menu (open, open in new tab/window, copy path, properties) with "Show more options" for Explorer's native menu; Shift+right-click opens the native menu directly.
  • Hamburger menu with Settings (Ctrl+,) and About. About includes a "Check for updates" button that queries GitHub Releases.

Appearance

  • Themes: dark, dimmed (blue-grey with five accents), and light.
  • English and Italian UI, switchable at runtime.
  • New app icon.

Download

filemanager.exe is a single portable executable; the zip contains the same build. Settings are stored in %APPDATA%\FileManager\settings.json.
