Getting started
- Download
Xaos-<version>-windows-setup.exefrom the releases page. - Run it. It needs administrator rights, installs to
Program Files\Xaosand replaces any previous version. Your library, favorites and playlists are kept. - Leave "Avvia Xaos" (launch Xaos) ticked at the end.
Everything Xaos needs is included: VLC for playback, adb for the phone, ffmpeg, yt-dlp and Deno for downloads. Nothing else to install.
On first start Xaos reads your Windows Music folder. To add more folders, open IMPOSTAZIONI > LIBRERIA > AGGIUNGI CARTELLA. Subfolders are included.
The library is indexed once and then only files that changed are read again, so later starts are fast.
- On the phone, enable the developer options (tap "Build number" seven times in Settings > About phone) and turn on USB debugging.
- Connect the phone with a USB cable.
- The phone asks "Allow USB debugging?". Tap Allow, and "Always allow from this computer" so it does not ask again.
- Xaos shows the phone in the sidebar within a couple of seconds.
Open the TELEFONO (phone) screen. If Xaos is not on the phone, the desktop app offers to install it; if the phone has an older version, it offers to update it. Playlists and favorites on the phone are kept.
You can also install Xaos-<version>-android-arm64.apk from the releases page directly. The app needs an arm64 phone with Android 7.0 or later.
On the TELEFONO screen:
- INVIA AL TELEFONO (send to phone) lists the songs the phone does not have. Untick what you do not want, then press SINCRONIZZA.
- IMPORTA DAL TELEFONO (import from phone) lists the songs that exist only on the phone.
- Favorites, playlists and listening history are exchanged by themselves at every connection.
More in Syncing with the phone.
Update the desktop app first, then the phone from the TELEFONO screen (AGGIORNA XAOS). An older desktop app does not know the newest playlist fields and would drop them when syncing.
