Xcode 26.3 download stuck indefinitely at "Step 2 of 7: Downloading" #846

Description

Describe the bug

I am trying to install Xcode 26.3 (17C529) using Xcodes.

After signing in with my Apple ID successfully, the installation starts, but it remains indefinitely at:

Step 2 of 7: Downloading

The progress bar does not show an actual percentage or downloaded size. It only displays an indeterminate blue animation moving back and forth.

I have waited for a long time, but there is no indication of whether the download is actually progressing, stalled, retrying, or waiting for Apple's CDN.

This makes it very difficult to determine whether Xcodes is working normally or whether the download has completely stalled.

It would be extremely helpful if Xcodes could show:

  • Downloaded size / total size
  • Current download speed
  • Percentage completed
  • Current Apple CDN/download URL or connection status
  • Retry / timeout status
  • A useful error message if no data has been received for an extended period

At the moment, the UI simply stays on "Downloading" indefinitely.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open Xcodes.
  2. Sign in with an Apple ID.
  3. Expand Xcode 26.
  4. Select Xcode 26.3 (17C529).
  5. Click Install.
  6. Wait until the process reaches Step 2 of 7: Downloading.
  7. The progress indicator remains indeterminate for a very long time with no useful download information.

Expected behavior

Xcodes should display real download progress, including at least the number of bytes downloaded and the total file size.

If the Apple download server is not responding, the connection has stalled, authentication has expired, or the CDN is unavailable, Xcodes should report that condition instead of showing an endless "Downloading" animation.

Ideally, there should also be a timeout/retry mechanism with visible status information.

Additional context

I am specifically trying to install Xcode 26.3 because Homebrew reports that my current Command Line Tools are outdated and recommends:

Command Line Tools for Xcode 26.3

Unfortunately, Apple's own Developer Downloads website has repeatedly been returning:

503 Service Temporarily Unavailable

so downloading the standalone CLT package directly from Apple is currently not a reliable fallback.

This makes tools such as Xcodes particularly important. When both Apple's Developer Downloads website is unavailable and Xcodes provides no meaningful progress/error information during a large Xcode download, troubleshooting becomes unnecessarily difficult.

I understand that Apple's server/CDN availability is outside the control of the Xcodes project. However, Xcodes could make this situation much easier to diagnose by exposing real download progress and network/error state instead of an indefinitely animated progress bar.

Screenshots

The Xcodes UI remains at:

with an indeterminate progress indicator.

Things get worse when switching to other account, which directly deny any downloading process.
