@Xenox-developer Xenox-developer released this 23 Oct 23:54

First experimental release of AI Protocol, a Rust framework and Python SDK for cooperative agent access to HTTP services.

Highlights

  • Embed the gateway in Axum with typed, read-only native handlers, or map an existing HTTP API through a service manifest.
  • Discover permitted operations through protocol v3; enforce shared owner/class budgets across tokens and client processes.
  • Bound execution, queues, waiting time and buffered bodies. Interactive/agent work uses 3:1 selection under competition.
  • Use the adaptive Python SDK for policy refresh, one logical deadline and conservative retries; optionally coordinate processes with the Unix dispatcher. OpenAI is optional.
  • Integrate host authentication and separate upstream/admin credentials; use probes, private metrics, safe JSON summaries and bounded signal shutdown.

Requirements and scope

Rust/Cargo 1.98.1, Python 3.12+, Linux/macOS for the dispatcher. This release supports one in-memory gateway per service and read-only operations. Public HTTPS requires an owner-managed reverse proxy. Distributed budgets, durable recovery, write idempotency and native Windows dispatcher support are outside this release. No independent security or usability audit is claimed.

Downloads and installation

The assets contain the Rust .crate, Python source distribution and wheel, a verification report, and SHA256SUMS. Check the hashes after downloading:

shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS
python -m pip install ./ai_protocol_client-0.1.0-py3-none-any.whl

For Rust source integration, extract ai-protocol-0.1.0.crate and use the extracted directory as a Cargo path dependency. The Rust integration guide includes the required dependencies and lifecycle example. The Python import is ai_protocol.

Registry publication status

Published and installation-verified on 2026-10-26.

Add the Rust library to your application's Cargo.toml:

[dependencies]
ai-protocol = "=0.1.0"

Install the Python SDK:

python -m pip install ai-protocol-client==0.1.0

The registry crate, wheel and source distribution match the attached GitHub release artifacts by SHA-256. A fresh Python environment installed the SDK from PyPI without OpenAI; a separate Cargo application consumed version 0.1.0 from crates.io with no local path overrides. Together they passed real HTTP discovery, conformance and native-operation calls outside the checkout, finished with zero outstanding work, and shut down cleanly.

Validation

The release source is 9cbdd34fbe7253b405deb12df548855a246fc398. Checks include Rust formatting/all-target builds, 66 Rust tests, one compiled documentation example, 49 Python tests, real HTTP integrations, SIGTERM drain/grace expiry, and documentation links. Package checks build the wheel from the sdist and run a separate Rust application plus an isolated installed SDK without OpenAI outside the checkout. Python artifacts also pass strict Twine metadata checks.

See the release CI, changelog, README, and compatibility guide. Report vulnerabilities through the repository's private reporting route.
