What's new in 0.2.0

  • New name: Strong Hold (was "Stronghold Crusader (Rust)")
  • Crusader Trail: trail briefing, Sands of Time timing, ranks and leaderboard, Customize, Skirmish Masters, custom trails; fixed trail missions where the lord and new buildings didn't appear
  • Historical campaign: all missions playable natively, story pages, hints and help
  • Market buying and selling and the demolish tool work again
  • Scribe's book opens the Reports (popularity breakdown and 9 report pages)
  • Troops: full order cursor, target markers, special troop buttons, Shift/Ctrl recruiting
  • Camera: original zoom steps, map edges, right-click compass menu (rotate, zoom, flatten, hide HUD), minimap shows the view correctly
  • LAN multiplayer: in-game chat, pause, multiplayer saves; co-op Crusader Trail over LAN
  • Sounds: menu speech, endgame music, mission sounds, tutorial voice-overs

Install

  1. Open the DMG and drag Strong Hold into Applications.
  2. First open: right-click the app > Open. On macOS 15+, open it once, then System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway (the app isn't notarized yet).
  3. The setup window gets your own copy of the game once: from CrossOver/Steam on this Mac, a folder, or a download from Steam with your account (scan a code with the Steam phone app, or user name + password + Steam Guard). About 8 GB of disk and a few minutes.

Coming from "Stronghold Crusader (Rust)"? Same app, new name. Drag the old app to the Bin; your download, settings and saves move over on first open.

Needs an Apple Silicon Mac with macOS 12+, and Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition on your Steam account.

Inside the native engine and Valve's DepotDownloader 3.4.0 (GPL-2.0, source: https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader/tree/DepotDownloader_3.4.0) for the Steam download. No files from the game.
