Yazelix Nova 1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@luccahuguet luccahuguet released this 10 Aug 06:15

Yazelix Nova 1.1 makes Atuin 18.16.1 the default managed local-history layer for Nushell, Bash, Zsh, and Fish.

Highlights

  • Ctrl+r opens contextual Atuin search while Up-arrow retains native shell history.
  • shell.atuin = false disables managed initialization without deleting history.
  • Existing user-sourced Atuin hooks remain the sole hook owner.
  • ATUIN_NOBIND retains history capture without managed bindings.
  • Nova disables Atuin AI bindings and leaves login, sync, daemons, and native Atuin configuration to Atuin.
  • Existing shell history can be imported explicitly once; repeating an import duplicates records.

Install

nix profile add --refresh github:Yazelix/nova/nova-v1.1.0

Existing Stable installations can update with:

nix profile upgrade --refresh yazelix

Verification

Local proof covered 93 Linux flake checks, four-system evaluation, a top-level package build, and an isolated exact-revision profile install reporting Yazelix Nova (1.1.0).

Yazelix Nova 1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@luccahuguet luccahuguet released this 09 Aug 17:15

Yazelix Nova 1.0 promotes the dogfooded beta.5 runtime under its stable release identity. Runtime behavior and child revisions match the accepted beta.5 release; the canonical source and first-party component repositories live in the Yazelix organization.

Highlights

  • yzx launch opens the managed Mars workspace. yzx enter runs the same workspace in the current terminal or over SSH.
  • Named session commands create, attach, and switch while preserving tabs, panes, processes, working directories, and Yazi-to-Helix routes.
  • Managed Yazi and Helix share one workspace owner, with persistent popups, reveal and return, Ratconfig, diagnostics, and tutor flows.
  • Stable, Main, and Edge packages identify their immutable channel. Stable renders NOVA 1.0 STABLE.

Install

nix profile add --refresh github:Yazelix/nova/nova-v1.0.0

Existing Stable installations can update with:

nix profile upgrade --refresh yazelix

Verification

Local proof covered all-system evaluation, all Linux flake checks, the full package build, an isolated profile install resolving the exact revision, runtime identity, and structured status output.

Known limits

Plugin-bound agent toggle and Alt h / Alt l can pause after switching into a session with no connected client. Native Alt 1-9 remains responsive and recovers those bindings.

GitHub's aarch64-darwin runner passes package and contract checks. The rebuilt Helix bridge and Mars GUI lack a fresh manual macOS interaction pass.

Yazelix Nova 1.0.0-beta.5

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@luccahuguet luccahuguet released this 07 Aug 15:23

Yazelix Nova 1.0.0-beta.5 is the final planned beta candidate before the v1 observation period.

Highlights

  • Adds the native v1 session contract: create named sessions, attach without reapplying the layout, and switch through Zellij’s session manager while preserving tabs, panes, processes, working directories, and Yazi-to-Helix routes.
  • Rebuilds the Yazelix Zellij fork on 0.45 with native Kitty image ownership, complete optional pane frames, stable compact stacks, fresh client identity, and disconnected-client plugin cleanup.
  • Recovers each tab’s canonical workspace after session switches so agent and LazyGit popups open at the preserved editor project.
  • Ships the authenticated Steel-enabled Helix bridge scoped to the current Yazelix session and tab.

Try it

nix profile add --refresh github:luccahuguet/yazelix/nova-v1.0.0-beta.5

Verification

Known beta limitation

After switching into a session that had no connected client, plugin-bound agent toggle and Alt h / Alt l can pause for several seconds. Native Alt 1-9 remains responsive and recovers those bindings. The rebuilt Helix bridge has automated aarch64-darwin package and contract evidence, but not a fresh manual macOS interaction pass.

Report regressions with the platform, terminal, command, and shortest reproduction.

Yazelix Nova 1.0.0-beta.4

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@luccahuguet luccahuguet released this 07 Aug 14:20

Yazelix Nova 1.0.0-beta.4 is the accepted beta.4 revision, published retroactively to reconcile the already-shipped package identity with an immutable tag and release.

Highlights

  • Fixes aquarium teardown so closing the popup or terminal does not leave a child spinning on a disconnected PTY.
  • Adds explicit Stable, Main, and Edge launcher and in-session channel identity.
  • Stabilizes persistent Yazi reveal, popup hide/return behavior, and tiled-pane navigation.
  • Expands Ratconfig coverage across Helix, Mars, Starship, Yazi, Zellij, Nushell, and Yazelix Cursors.
  • Adds Yazelix-wide dark/light appearance projection and matching Zellij theme pairs.

Try it

nix profile add --refresh github:luccahuguet/yazelix/nova-v1.0.0-beta.4

Verification

This remains a beta release. Report regressions with the platform, terminal, command, and shortest reproduction.

Yazelix Nova 1.0.0-beta.3

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@luccahuguet luccahuguet released this 23 Jul 04:26

Yazelix Nova beta 3 collects the product and stabilization work completed after
beta 2 into one immutable testing release.

Highlights

  • Upgrades yzx config to Ratconfig 6 with truthful sparse intent, effective
    values, field capabilities, reset behavior, contextual controls, and more
    useful Overview/All views.
  • Publishes the complete composable package matrix:
    yazelix[-no-mars][-no-helix][-no-yazi], including host-owned Yazi and
    editor combinations.
  • Adds a persistent full-workspace Yazi popup and exposes the managed Yazi
    materializer as a supported yzx yazi-config materialize command.
  • Adds native managed-Yazi Starship configuration through both ordinary config
    and Home Manager.
  • Adds the remappable full-screen visual popup and bounded asciiquarium
    welcome/screen style.
  • Expands yzx doctor with read-only Classic residue diagnostics and improves
    the tutor, project documentation, and first-party component guidance.
  • Fixes shared CPU/RAM widget lock recovery and hardens package, popup,
    configuration, and editor ownership boundaries.

Try beta 3

nix profile add --refresh github:luccahuguet/yazelix/nova-v1.0.0-beta.3
yzx launch

All eight package shapes are available from the tag. For example:

nix run github:luccahuguet/yazelix/nova-v1.0.0-beta.3#yazelix-no-mars -- enter

Verification

This exact tag commit passed:

Beta caveat

Real macOS interactive Home Manager, yzx enter, yzx launch, Mars, and
managed-workspace confirmation remains tracked in
issue #577. Automated
Darwin package and Home Manager gates are green; the remaining hands-on
evidence blocks stable v1, not this beta.

Yazelix Nova 1.0.0-beta.2

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@luccahuguet luccahuguet released this 17 Jul 23:23

Yazelix Nova beta 2 captures the substantial stabilization work completed after the canonical beta-1 cutover.

Highlights

  • Adds the yazelix-no-helix package for the full Mars workspace with a host-owned editor.
  • Stabilizes one canonical workspace root per tab across Yazi opens, Helix coordination, Git, and hidden agent reuse.
  • Expands Ratconfig with Core/All discovery, native Yazi configuration, packaged flavor selection, Zellij themes, stronger diagnostics, and polished structured editing.
  • Makes sidebar visibility and focus bindings configurable while preserving one validated Zellij policy owner.
  • Improves Mars URL handling, desktop identity, light-appearance integration, and truthful live-setting boundaries.
  • Adds accurate agent busy activity and a human fallback pane title.
  • Publishes and verifies Linux and aarch64-darwin package/Home Manager closures through the Yazelix Cachix cache.

Install

nix profile add --refresh github:luccahuguet/yazelix
yzx launch

The alternate package shapes remain available as #yazelix-no-helix and #runtime.

Verification

This exact tag commit passed:

Beta caveat

Real macOS interactive yzx launch and Mars-managed session confirmation remains tracked in issue #577. Automated Darwin package and Home Manager gates are green; the remaining hands-on evidence blocks stable v1, not this beta.

Yazelix Nova 1.0.0-beta.1

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@luccahuguet luccahuguet released this 14 Jul 02:28

Yazelix Nova is now the canonical Yazelix track at github:luccahuguet/yazelix.

Install

nix profile add --refresh github:luccahuguet/yazelix
yzx launch

For the runtime-only package:

nix profile add --refresh github:luccahuguet/yazelix#runtime
yzx status --json

Cutover notes

  • Canonical main intentionally uses the compact Nova history. Existing clones should make a fresh clone before contributing.
  • The frozen classic branch points to v17.9, while the immutable v17.12 tag remains the migration and rollback bridge.
  • yzx status --json is the canonical machine-readable issue diagnostic.
  • Linux profile installation and the aarch64-darwin package/Home Manager closure passed the release Version Gate on this exact tag commit.

Beta caveat

Real macOS interactive launch and Mars session validation remain tracked in issue #577. The package and Home Manager gates are green; that remaining hands-on validation blocks stable v1, not this beta.

See the changelog for the full runtime contract and release history.

v17: first-party child repos, Ghostty image previews, and JSONC workspace config

Choose a tag to compare

@luccahuguet luccahuguet released this 22 May 10:31

First-party child repos, Ghostty image previews, and JSONC workspace config

Upgrade impact: no user action required

Highlights:

  • Established the first-party child-repo architecture across yazelix-screen, yazelix-ghostty-cursors, yazelix-zellij-popup, yazelix-zellij-bar, yazelix-zellij-pane-orchestrator, yazelix-yazi-assets, and yazelix-ratconfig
  • Replaced copied source, copied wasm, duplicated widget code, and vendored Yazi assets with locked child-owned packages and artifacts consumed by the main runtime
  • Promoted Ghostty back to the default packaged terminal, with Yazi image previews restored through temporary first-party yazelix-zellij and yazelix-yazi Kitty-graphics passthrough forks while upstream Zellij support is still pending
  • Switched the package baseline to nixpkgs-unstable and pulled in newer Yazi/Chafa behavior that avoids the Chafa terminal-probe ghost-keypress regression
  • Made settings.jsonc the canonical user config, backed by settings_default.jsonc, JSON schema coverage, strict unknown-field diagnostics, additive repair, and complete Home Manager rendering
  • Upgraded yzx config ui into a structured JSONC settings editor with scalar pickers, keybinding rows, safer parse-error behavior, popup launch through Alt Shift C, and generic config UI machinery owned by yazelix-ratconfig
  • Added the directional workspace keymap: Alt Shift H toggles the left sidebar, Alt Shift J opens the bottom popup, Alt Shift K opens the top popup, Alt Shift L opens the right Codex agent sidebar, and Alt Shift M opens the menu popup
  • Added managed focus/reveal keys: Ctrl y switches between editor and left sidebar, Ctrl Shift Y switches between editor and right sidebar, and Alt r smart-reveals in the editor or falls back to editor/left-sidebar focus
  • Made Yazelix and native Zellij key policies data-driven through settings.jsonc, including remappable native defaults such as Ctrl Alt g/s/o for locked/scroll/session modes, Ctrl Shift H/L for tab movement, Alt 1..9 for tab jumps, Ctrl Alt p for pane groups, and Alt Shift F for focus fullscreen
  • Converged generated runtime state before launch so stale Zellij layouts, plugin permission caches, terminal configs, copied native config files, and Yazi static assets are repaired or diagnosed deterministically
  • Moved status-bar and widget ownership into yazelix-zellij-bar, including Codex, Claude, OpenCode Go, CPU/RAM, cursor, cached facts, throttled refresh, and first-paint hydration
  • Exposed standalone subsystem packages for screen rendering, Ghostty cursors, popup panes, the Zellij bar, and Yazi assets while keeping normal Yazelix installs wired automatically
  • Matured public Nix customization with mkYazelix, overlays, runtime tool sources, component toggles, child package outputs, Home Manager integration, and Cachix publishing
  • Migrated maintainer issue tracking from Go/Dolt bd to Rust br, with tracked JSONL state, ignored local SQLite cache, Nix packaging, CI initialization, and GitHub issue sync support
  • Users jumping straight from early v16 should still read the v16.2 and v16.3 notes for cursor-sidecar and flat-config-path manual actions

v16: Rust-forward control plane, irreducible Nushell core, and cleaner CLI surfaces

Choose a tag to compare

@luccahuguet luccahuguet released this 13 Apr 16:03
  • Rust Became The Clear Public Owner – v16 turns the old "selective Rust" story into the main product story. The public yzx control plane, typed runtime/config logic, and more of the editor/Yazi integration flow now live in Rust instead of behind transitional Nu bridges.
  • Nushell Was Reduced To An Honest Core – The surviving Nushell surface is now mostly startup/bootstrap, direct TTY/UI, and tiny live shell wrappers. The broad "Nu because it used to live there" middle layer is gone.
  • The Trim Held – v16 does not reopen Classic scope. The fixed packaged runtime, explicit update owners, managed ./, and workspace-first product boundary from v15 remain intact.
  • Popup/Menu And Workspace Orchestration Stayed Intentional – Popup and command-menu panes still follow the managed floating-pane model, but the remaining shell seams now sit where they are architecturally honest: Rust owns the deterministic contracts and Nushell owns the direct shell/UI handoff.
  • CLI Surfaces Feel More Deliberateyzx status, yzx status --versions, and yzx keys now share a clearer visual language and stronger default human rendering without giving up the typed --json surfaces underneath.
  • v15 Becomes The Reboot Foundation – The trimmed v15 release is no longer just the live product line; it is the reboot that made the v16 Rust-forward line possible.

v14: Boundary hardening, honest update ownership, and a much cleaner runtime surface

Choose a tag to compare

@luccahuguet luccahuguet released this 10 Apr 18:32
  • Boundary Hardening Across Launch and Runtime: Launch, runtime, and desktop startup got much harder to break on flake-installed or Home Manager-owned setups.
  • Workspace Truth Moved Deeper Into the Pane Orchestrator: Sidebar identity and workspace retargeting now depend more on live Zellij truth and less on shell-side cache heuristics.
  • Home Manager Became a First-Class Owner Path: Home Manager now has profile-owned yzx, plus yzx home_manager prepare to preview or archive manual-install artifacts before takeover, and stronger validation around generated config surfaces and takeover flows.
  • The Packaged Runtime Is the Honest Center: The flake package surface is primary now, with runtime/current and installer-owned indirection trimmed back sharply.
  • Update Ownership Is Explicit Again: yzx update upstream refreshes upstream/manual installs, yzx update home_manager refreshes the current Home Manager flake input, and the transitional yzx update runtime / yzx update all flow is gone again.
  • yzx run Is a Real Passthrough Again: yzx run now behaves like a one-shot argv passthrough for child commands, so child argv like yzx run rg --files go through unchanged.
  • The Front Door Stayed Richer: The current v14 line carried forward the late-v13 front-door expansion, including the welcome style selector, the live game_of_life welcome mode, yzx screen to preview the animated welcome screen directly in the terminal, and the managed popup runner with configurable popup commands and sizing.
  • Config Ownership Became Much Clearer: user_configs/, the separate yazelix_packs.toml file, the migration engine, and first-run upgrade summaries made config ownership and upgrades much more explicit.
  • Workspace Control Kept Tightening: Managed editor/sidebar routing, deterministic sidebar controls, yzx cwd to retarget the current tab workspace root with editor/sidebar sync, direct Ctrl+y focus toggling, and Alt+number tab jumps all matured across the line.
  • Delete-First Cleanup Set the Next Seam: A broad cleanup pass removed stale compatibility surfaces and documented the trim-first path toward v15.

Historical Note

v14 is the final historical Yazelix Classic release.

Classic was the broader integrated shape of Yazelix: yazelix packs, yzx packs, dynamic runtime management, richer shell and terminal breadth, multiple ownership paths, and a much wider yzx surface.

That line is no longer supported. v15 is now the only supported Yazelix line, and it trims that older runtime-manager scope out of the product.

Use the v14 tag only if you specifically need that older Classic product shape.

Manual Action Required For Some Users

  • Replace yzx update runtime with yzx update upstream for upstream/manual installs.
  • Replace yzx update all with exactly one owner path: yzx update upstream for upstream/manual installs or yzx update home_manager for Home Manager installs.

Full Changelog: v13...v14
