celPix

celPix is a graphics viewer and editor for ROM hacking and research. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Start here:

• Getting Started: open a ROM and edit a Super Mario World level background.

Feature tutorials:

• VRAM Windows: composites with gaps and partial sheets.
• Pinned Palette Rows: show one sheet in more than one palette row.
• Plugin Inputs: formats that need data from another part of the file.
• Compress & Reshape: maps that the game rearranges after it unpacks them.
• Text and Fonts: give a font an alphabet, and edit message boxes as text.
• Sprites: a sprite drawn from a table of records, the Subsprites window and the animation player.
