ShareDesk 0.11.0
Desktop widget, resumable uploads and a new README.
Desktop widget (optional) — a small Windows window that opens your desk's own address in widget mode, so the desk server draws it and nothing changes for people who stay in the browser. The Drawer is a file grid you drop files on; the Window shows who is online, the latest uploads and desk storage for admins. Members find the download in the desk sidebar under Desktop widget; the installer is a fixed address that always points at the latest widget, and the widget updates itself from the tray menu after verifying the signature. See docs/WIDGET.md.
Wall, Pin and drag-out — the widget can tuck into the nearer screen edge as a small handle (Wall): point at the handle or drag a file onto it and it slides out, and clicks beside the handle go to the window behind. Pin fixes it to the desktop behind your other windows instead of always on top. From the Drawer you can drag a file icon onto an Explorer folder to download it there (Windows). While the widget is folded during a transfer, the handle's border fills green with the progress and flashes red if something failed. These arrive with widget 0.3.0; an older widget shows an update notice and offers the new version in its tray menu once it is published.
Resumable uploads — Drive uploads now go in chunks. If a refresh or a lost connection cuts an upload off, the taskbar shows how many uploads can be resumed; open that panel and drop the same file again (or pick it again) to continue where it stopped, on the desk, on the phone layout and in the Quick link window. Leaving the page during an upload asks first. Upload error messages follow the current interface language.
README — rewritten around real captures of the English interface: a hero image, the desk, the sidebar, the four wallpapers and the widget's four scenes, in all five languages.
macOS widget groundwork — the widget shell now saves downloads to ~/Downloads on macOS, runs as a menu bar app without a Dock icon and keeps its window level after start; the release script is ready to publish the macOS installer once it has been built on a Mac.

ShareDesk 0.10.9
Public folder tidy-up.
Admins arrange public folders in place — on a public folder page, admins can drag icons to rearrange them. The layout is saved to the desk folder, so visitors see exactly that arrangement. Positions snap to the desk grid and never overlap; the rest of the icons stay where they were.
Simpler public folder management — the admin panel no longer lists files or shows a share button. Each folder row keeps copy-address and QR and gains an "Open public folder" link, with the name/status line and the action buttons on separate rows.
Bigger QR codes — every QR button (share links, public folders, invitation codes) now opens a large, centered code (about 320px) that phones can actually scan, instead of a tiny inline image.

The phone release.
Long-press actions — press and hold any file or folder on the mobile list to rename it, move it to the parent folder, create a one-hour share link, view properties, set a folder color, or send it to the trash. Everything the desktop right-click menu does for daily tidying, now reachable with one thumb.
Take a photo, upload it — a camera button in the dock opens the camera directly and uploads the shot through the same direct-to-Drive path as everything else, so size is not a concern.
Search on mobile — the magnifier in the top bar searches the whole desk; results show their path, and one tap jumps to the folder a file lives in.
Share sheet and QR codes — on phones, links can go straight to the OS share sheet. Every share link, public folder, and invitation code can also show a QR code (generated locally, nothing leaves the page); scanning an invitation QR opens the join screen with the code pre-filled.
Chat on mobile — the envelope in the top bar opens desk chat; it polls only while open.
QR output is cross-verified against an independent decoder in tests after an adversarial review caught the initial encoder producing unscannable codes.
ShareDesk 0.10.7
Mobile upload progress.
You can see uploads happening now
While a file uploads from a phone, a progress strip shows the file name, which file it is out of the batch, and a live percentage. Before this, the screen stayed silent for the whole upload, which made slow uploads look like failures.
Upload errors stay on screen
Error notices no longer disappear on their own — they stay until tapped, so a failure that happens while you are not looking is still there when you come back. The exact reason from the server is shown.
ShareDesk 0.10.6
Fixes mobile uploads.
Mobile uploads no longer fail on photos
The mobile list view was sending the whole file through the app server, and on Vercel that path is capped at 4.5 MB per request — most phone photos are bigger, so they failed with no explanation. Mobile now uses the same path as the desktop: the browser uploads the file directly to Google Drive, so anything the desktop can upload, the phone can too.
Upload errors now say why
When a mobile upload fails, the screen shows the actual reason (duplicate name, out of space, and so on) instead of just a failure count. Error notices also stay on screen longer.
ShareDesk 0.10.5
Desktop icons now use the whole desk, plus properties, paste-to-link, and a public folder that behaves like the desk.
Icons can reach the whole desktop
Icon placement was pinned to a hardcoded 1280x628 box while the desk itself scales with the window. On a 1440p screen the desk is 1706x778, so roughly 40% of it was unreachable. The trash keep-out zone had the same bug: it sat at fixed coordinates in the middle of wide screens while the real trash can went unprotected. Both now follow the actual desk size. Positions saved on a wide screen are no longer overwritten when the desk is opened on a narrower one.
Item properties
Right-click any icon (or a search result) and pick Properties: full name with extension, absolute-style address, kind, size, last modified, and who uploaded it. Admins also see the download count and who downloaded it, including visitors who came through a public folder link.
Paste a screenshot into Quick link
With the Quick link window in front, Ctrl+V uploads a copied screenshot and creates the one-hour link right away. Pasted images get a timestamped name instead of image.png.
Public folders behave like the desk
Visitors can now click to select, see a pressed state, and right-click for Open / Download. Opening in the browser is available without hunting for the download-first toggle. Safe types open inline; HTML and SVG stay attachment-only as before.

Fix
Desktop icons only avoid the sidebar handle
The reserved strip on the right was sized to the open panel (232px), so nearly a fifth of the desktop became unusable even while the sidebar was closed. Only the closed handle (20px) actually sits over the desktop; the panel covers things while it is open and gives the space back when it closes.
The icon grid goes back to 13 columns (77 slots, up from 10 columns / 60), and saved positions out near the right edge stay where you put them. Spaces reserve nothing, since the handle is not rendered there.

Fixes
The star prompt is gone when auto-update is on
Turning on auto-update already verifies that the repository owner starred the template, and the nightly run proceeds on that. Instant update was checking again through a different path that needs a token, so installs without one saw a consent screen even though the star was there. Now the check is skipped whenever auto-update is on. Desks with auto-update off keep the original prompt.
Auto-update no longer looks like it switched itself off
The admin screen drew the "press the star" state while desk settings were still loading — right after an update, with a cold start, that could linger long enough to look like the setting had been reset. Loading now shows as loading, and the star button only appears once settings are read. The stored value was never changed.

What's new
Where things live
The desk now has one door out: Leave takes you to the desk picker, and sign-out lives there. Your main desk shows up as a card named main alongside your spaces, and space management (create, rename, members, unregister) moved to that screen — where you pick a desk, not inside one. The picker was rebuilt in the pixel theme to match the rest of the app.
Update badge
A new version now announces itself as a badge next to the ShareDesk logo, top-left. Click it to update — this works whether or not auto-update is on, and the tray button is gone.
Icons you can tell apart
Files get distinct icons for documents, spreadsheets, slides, plain text, code (26 extensions), and executables. Folders can be tinted with any of seven rainbow colors from the right-click menu, and the tint follows the folder when it moves or gets renamed. Public folders wear a share badge.
Public folders
The visitor view gained search and the download-first toggle, matching the desk. Uploading is drag-and-drop; the upload button and the empty-folder notice are gone. A registered public folder can no longer be thrown away by accident — unregister it first.
Smaller things
Your name in the taskbar is text again: click it, confirm, and rename. Nickname changes now show up in the activity log. Desktop icons stay clear of the right-edge panel. The public folders admin tab got its spacing fixed.
Hardening
Three adversarial review passes fixed guards that only checked the target itself — deleting, moving, or renaming a parent folder could silently kill a live public link. Also tightened the inline-download type check, corrected sidebar space reservation on spaces (which was moving icons that nothing covered), and removed dead code paths. Verified with 355 automated tests and 209 live-server checks.
