JSON API Forge Editor is a native C++20/Qt 6 desktop application. Code, Visual and Graph modes work on the same Forge project documents. Launching the Editor does not start a Forge server. Local documents can be edited offline; remote work requires a separate runtime.
| System | Architecture | Portable | Installer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows | x64 / ARM64 | .zip |
-setup.exe |
| Linux | x64 / ARM64 | .zip |
-setup.run |
| macOS | Intel x64 / Apple Silicon ARM64 | .zip |
-setup.dmg |
The official v0.5.1 release lists ZIP and installer assets for all six targets. A source archive is different from a compiled desktop ZIP. The Linux server's musl/glibc matrix does not transfer directly to the Editor; evaluate its Qt and host dependencies separately.
Keep portable packages intact: the executable needs accompanying Qt plugins, platform libraries, launcher and notices. Installers include maintenance/uninstallation tooling and platform shortcuts. A compiled package is not necessarily digitally signed or notarized.
Linux .run files may need executable permission. The default per-user destination is ~/Applications/JSON API Forge Editor. Do not replace system libraries with arbitrary bundled files.
- Select
File → Open local workspace…. - Open a Forge deployment root, its
app/directory or one project directory. - Select
app.jsonor aconfig/*.jsondocument. - Choose the mode appropriate for that document type.
- Save, then run
forge validatein the server environment.
Local save uses atomic file replacement. Editor structural checks do not cover every merged-project/runtime rule. Remote saving adds more extensive server-side staging validation.
The reviewed UI uses Settings → Network and editor settings…. The older Edit → Settings path in EDITOR.md does not match this commit.

Qt can adapt platform-standard shortcuts on macOS. UI labels in the reviewed source are English; the Wiki retains the actual menu names.
Preferences cover network timeouts, safe GET retries, JSON size, server history, layout, discard confirmation, right-button panning and zoom sensitivity. Passwords/sessions are not persisted in settings. See the complete defaults.
