Editor workspace, modes and templates

Scope: JSON API Forge 0.5.1 · Source review: 17 September 2026 · Language: English

Code mode

Code mode provides line numbers, JSON syntax highlighting, active-line feedback and direct document editing. Not every schema field has a dedicated visual control; Code mode exposes the whole document. Fix malformed JSON before saving.

Visual mode

Edit resources, operations, databases and event channels through typed forms and JSON properties. Selection and dragging improve navigation, but the presence of a control does not mean the server accepts every combination of values.

Graph mode

The node-and-edge canvas describes operation design. .forgegraph.json documents have a different lifecycle from ordinary configuration fragments. Follow graph compilation to turn a design into running backend configuration.

Local versus remote

Topic Local Remote
File access Local workspace policy Server document allowlist and role scopes
Save QSaveFile atomic replacement SHA revision, locking, staging and full validation
Create project Local directory Also requires server switch and permission
Python hook Local file permissions Server policy and separate high-trust permission
Graph Local metadata EDITOR_ALLOW_GRAPHS and graph permission
Team/DB Not a standalone local database client Server-backed workspace

A lost response can leave a write's outcome uncertain. The Editor does not blindly replay mutations; its reconciliation flow compares save digests with server state. Reconnection/session expiry on the same server identity attempts to preserve unsaved text.

Templates

After opening a local workspace, choose File → New from template…. Template files are staged and published atomically when all files are ready.

Template Starting point
Secure Operations Hub Authorized CRUD, cache, events and analytics
SaaS Control Plane Tenant subscriptions and lifecycle
Event-Driven Commerce Order workflows
Analytics Read Model Bounded aggregate/read model
Forge Plugin Registry Editor catalog metadata
Python Enterprise Gateway Python SDK integration scaffold
Media Operations Media-processing metadata/workflows
Audited Ledger Workflow Controlled transitions and audit-oriented records

Domain names do not imply complete accounting, payment or media-processing engines. Read each template's manifest, configuration, graph and runbook. Add your business rules, tenant boundaries and migrations.

Python SDK panel

Integrations → Python SDK panel generates sync/async, pagination/retry, cluster, YoungLion and DDM snippets. It reads API keys from named environment variables rather than embedding secrets. Python is invoked with fixed arguments, and the panel can check SDK installation and run bounded health probes. Select the correct Python environment for your deployment.

Compare generated snippets with the source-verified SDK reference; another SDK version may expose a different interface.
