This release gives TIME ATTACK and LEVEL SELECT a new look (Issue #53).

  • The zone you pick: a large picture of it at the time of day you chose, made by the game itself from your ROM. The zone's name sits on the picture between arrows.
    • The first time you pick a zone and time, the picture takes a few seconds to make, longer on a phone. Until it is ready, a darkened picture of the same zone shows "LOADING…".
    • Pictures are cached afterwards, so they show at once next time.
  • ACT and TIME: rows of chips under the picture, with the current choice in yellow.
  • PLAYER and PARTNER: cards with each character's own standing sprite. Character colour and sprite mods show on them.
  • The rest:
    • On TIME ATTACK, a card with your best time and the GHOST setting.
    • On LEVEL SELECT, a reminder that it is practice, with no clock, records or saving.
    • Then 1 or 2 players, and a big START.
  • Controls and sizes:
    • Keyboard and gamepad work as before: up and down move between the rows, left and right change them.
    • On touch screens, chips, arrows and START work with one tap.
    • The page follows MENU SIZE, and on a portrait phone it stacks into one column.
  • How TIME ATTACK and LEVEL SELECT work is unchanged.

Validation:

  • Windows: all 103 CTest cases pass. New tests:
    • the layout keeps every touch area on screen for both pages, at four window sizes and every menu size, landscape and portrait;
    • choosing by taps and by keys builds the same stage request as before;
    • the character sprites come from the ROM, and mods change them;
    • zone pictures are made on demand and reloaded from the cache.
  • Lockstep: all 33 sweep runs with random input are bit-identical.
  • macOS (M1): all 100 CTest cases pass and lockstep is bit-identical on arm64.
  • Linux: all 100 Linux CTest cases pass.
  • Packages: the packaged Windows and Linux builds pass the startup tests.
  • Android: the APKs have not been tested on a device for this release.

Downloads: the Windows x64 zip, the Linux x64 tar.gz, the macOS arm64 zip, the iOS .ipa, and two Android APKs: arm64-v8a/x86_64 (the usual one) and armeabi-v7a (32-bit ARM). Both APKs use version code 39 and the same signing certificate as 0.14.0, so they update in place.

You must supply your own Knuckles' Chaotix (Japan, USA) ROM. No ROM image or game assets are included.
