This release adds a widescreen HUD, a reachable Mods folder on Android, and a reorganised OPTIONS menu.
-
HUD at the screen edge (Issue #28): in widescreen levels, SCORE, TIME and RINGS now sit at the left edge of the widened picture instead of the 4:3 area.
- The positions are immediates in the SH-2's own HUD code, and only those are changed. Game state is identical (68K RAM compared over 3000 frames), and lockstep validation still passes.
- OPTIONS > VIDEO > WIDE HUD turns this off. It is on by default.
-
Mods folder on Android (Issue #29): on Android 11 and later, file managers cannot open
Android/data, so mods there could only be added from a computer.- OPTIONS > EXTRAS > MODS FOLDER asks for Android's "All files access" (the storage permission before Android 11).
- Once access is granted, the Mods folder is
ChaotixRecompiled/Modsin the phone's storage. Mods are reloaded when you return to the app. - Until then, the old folder is still used.
-
OPTIONS in categories: OPTIONS had grown to about twenty rows and ran off phone screens. It is now four short pages:
- VIDEO: widescreen, wide lobby, wide HUD, aspect ratio, scaling, smoothing, screen, V-sync.
- SOUND: sound, volume, music, effects.
- INPUT: touch pad, 6-button pad.
- EXTRAS: cheats, Mods folder, awards, reset awards.
BACK and Escape return to the page above.
-
CHEATS page fixed: since 0.4.0 the CHEATS page showed the awards page by mistake, so its switches could not be seen. It now shows its list.
Thanks to @lemanrush and @DoodleDiskette for the requests.
Validation:
- Windows: all 27 CTest cases pass, including a new lockstep run with the HUD at the edge and new menu tests that check every OPTIONS page fits and that the CHEATS page can be tapped.
- Linux: all 24 Linux CTest cases pass.
- Packages: the packaged Windows and Linux builds pass the startup tests.
- Android: the Mods folder was checked on an Android 16 emulator. With access granted, a touch image placed in
ChaotixRecompiled/Mods/Touchis used. Without access, the old folder is used.
Downloads: the Windows x64 zip, the Linux x64 tar.gz, and two Android APKs: arm64-v8a/x86_64 (the usual one) and armeabi-v7a (32-bit ARM). Both APKs use version code 16 and the same signing certificate as 0.4.2, so they update in place.
You must supply your own Knuckles' Chaotix (Japan, USA) ROM. No ROM image or game assets are included.
