0.9.0
This release adds mod packs with an in-game list, and lobby shortcuts for story mode.
- Mod packs (Issue #42): a mod can now be a folder of its own in
Mods, with amod.inithat gives its name, author, version and description, and its files in the usual folders (Textures,Characters,Music,Patches,Touch).- OPTIONS > EXTRAS > MODS lists the packs. You can turn each one on or off, move it up or down, and open its page for its description and preview picture.
- When two packs replace the same thing, the higher one wins.
- Graphics, text, character colours, music and touch images reload as soon as you leave the page, or with RELOAD MODS. ROM patches and character stats apply the next time the app starts.
- Loose files placed straight in
Mods/Texturesand the other folders keep working as before, and override every pack. - On Android, MODS FOLDER has moved onto the MODS page.
- Details and the
mod.iniformat: docs/MOD_PACKS.md.
- Lobby shortcuts (Issue #44): OPTIONS > EXTRAS > LOBBY SHORTCUTS (also on the pause menu) sets your partner and the time of day in story mode, instead of the Combi Catcher's draw and the game's clock.
- Partner: CATCHER (the game's own draw) or any character.
- Time of day: GAME (the game's own) or MORNING, DAY, SUNSET or NIGHT.
- They take effect when the lobby or an attraction starts. The Combi Catcher still works, but the chosen partner is put in place when the attraction starts.
- Only values the game itself can produce are used, so progress saves to your DATA slot as usual.
- It is off by default, and doesn't touch TIME ATTACK, INTRODUCTION, TRAINING, or the special and bonus stages.
- Details: docs/LOBBY_SHORTCUTS.md.
Validation:
- Windows: all 65 CTest cases pass. New tests:
- Mod packs: two packs replacing the same pictures show in their chosen order, and a disabled pack has no effect, ROM patches included. Loose files still load and win.
- Lobby shortcuts: a level started through the shortcuts runs with the chosen partner and time.
- Saving: a finished level still saves the same slot record.
- Shortcuts off: the lobby and the Combi Catcher are frame-for-frame unchanged.
- Lockstep: all 33 sweep runs with random input are bit-identical, also with the lobby shortcuts on.
- macOS (M1): all 62 CTest cases pass and lockstep is bit-identical on arm64.
- Linux: all 62 Linux CTest cases pass.
- Packages: the packaged Windows and Linux builds pass the startup tests.
- Android: the APKs have not been tested on a device for this release.
Downloads: the Windows x64 zip, the Linux x64 tar.gz, the macOS arm64 zip, the iOS .ipa, and two Android APKs: arm64-v8a/x86_64 (the usual one) and armeabi-v7a (32-bit ARM). Both APKs use version code 32 and the same signing certificate as 0.8.0, so they update in place.
You must supply your own Knuckles' Chaotix (Japan, USA) ROM. No ROM image or game assets are included.
