∞ Mpv∞ 2.2.0 — The Smooth Motion Update 🎞️✨
This is our biggest update yet! The headline feature is frame interpolation: your videos can now play buttery smooth, up to 120 fps. On top of that, there's a whole new Liquid Glass look, proper radio support and smarter subtitles. Here's what's new 👇
🎞️ Frame interpolation — silky smooth video
- 🧈 Buttery smooth playback — Mpv∞ creates new in-between frames on the fly, so movies, anime and sports look fluid instead of choppy, even when the original video is 24 or 30 fps.
- 🚀 Up to 120 fps — match your phone's high refresh-rate screen, with 120 fps as the default target.
- 📱 Uses your phone's GPU — the heavy work runs on your phone's graphics chip, so playback stays smooth without overloading your phone.
- 🙂 Cleaner faces and clothes — we worked hard to get rid of the blocky, pixelated "ghost" patches that often show up around moving people in other smooth-motion players.
- 🎬 Works in both players — available in the MPV player and the Native player.
- 📲 Which APK to install — for smooth motion in the MPV player, install the arm64-v8a APK (the right one for almost all modern phones). The other APKs don't include smooth motion for the MPV player.
- 👆 One-tap shortcut — turn smooth motion on or off right from the player. The video picks up exactly where you were, without an extra popup.
- 🎯 Pick your FPS in the player — add the on/off and target-FPS buttons to your player controls and change them without leaving your video.
- ⚙️ Simple settings — every frame interpolation setting now has a short line explaining what it does.
- 📊 See it working — the statistics screen shows your real playback FPS in both players.
💎 A brand-new Liquid Glass look
- 🪟 Liquid Glass mode — turn it on in Appearance and the whole app gets a frosted, see-through glass style: the player, menus, popups, settings, search bars and buttons.
- 🎛️ Make it yours — adjust how strong the glass, blur and frost look.
- 🔘 3D toggles and sliders — switches and sliders now have real depth, and they change colour to match your theme (light on dark and AMOLED, dark on light).
- ⬆️ Menus that slide up from the bottom — Sort & View, settings choices and server setup now slide up from the bottom of the screen, so every option is easy to reach with your thumb.
- 🎬 See your video behind the menus — player menus are frosted, so you can still see your video softly blurred behind them while the text stays easy to read.
- 🖤 True black AMOLED — AMOLED mode stays properly black, and the top bar now runs edge to edge with no glow.
- 🧭 Swipe the tab bar — drag the bottom navigation pill to switch tabs, and jumping across several tabs is now smooth.
- ∞ A cleaner header — the app name at the top is now just the ∞ symbol.
▶️ Better playback
- 🔄 Switch players without losing your place — your position, audio track and subtitles carry over when you switch between the MPV and Native players.
- ⏩ Less buffering — no more constant buffering after skipping, even in 4K movies.
- 👀 Live preview while scrubbing — drag the seek bar and the picture follows along with you.
- 📊 Simpler stats — the statistics screen is cleaner and no longer pops up in the music player.
- 🛠️ Lots of fixes — fixed aspect ratio in the Native player, ambient mode after switching players, and videos staying paused after a swipe-seek.
- ⚡ Faster menus — the decoder and subtitle menus open faster.
🎵 Music & 📻 Radio
- 📻 Radio that just works — radio playlists now play properly and open straight in the music player, with song info and album art.
- 📂 A home for your radio — radio stations get their own Radio playlist, with a setting to choose how radio links open.
- 📺 Fresh IPTV, radio and playlist screens — redesigned to be cleaner and easier to browse.
- ⬇️ Swipe to minimize — swipe the music player down and it shrinks smoothly into the mini player.
- 🎨 Colours from your album art — the music player picks up colours from the album cover without stretching the artwork.
- 🎶 Roomier music lists — songs and artists have more space, covers are bigger by default, and the Music tab has a new music note icon.
- 🔔 Notification controls fixed — skipping songs from the notification now shows the right song and artwork.
🌍 Smarter subtitles
- 🤖 Translate subtitles with your favourite AI — use your own Gemini, DeepL, OpenAI-compatible or Google Cloud key, or keep using free Google Translate.
- 🔐 Your keys stay private — your API keys are never shown in error messages or saved in logs.
- 💬 Clear messages — if a translation fails, you'll see a short message explaining why, and the app won't quietly switch to Google on you.
🚀 Faster & more reliable
- 🖼️ Faster thumbnails — thumbnails load quicker and don't disappear when you scroll back up.
- 🧠 Less memory use — fixed a memory leak that came from subtitle translation.
- 🧊 No more freezing — fixed a freeze and a connection problem from user reports.
- 🔎 Small but handy — you can export playlists again, and long-pressing in global search now shows options.
🗣️ More languages
- 🇮🇩 🇮🇷 New languages, including Indonesian and Persian, plus lots of missing translations filled in, so menus and settings show up in your language.
📜 About the license
From this version on, Mpv∞ uses a new permission-only license.
You can still download, install and use the app as normal ❤️
To copy, reuse or publish the code, you need permission from the developer. This protects the work that went into this release. Older versions keep their original license.
