DevTrack 1.0

DevTrack is a local-first workspace for solo developers: projects, planned work, GitHub history, files and README previews, notes, and time tracking. Your data lives in a single SQLite file on your machine. No server, no account, no telemetry.

Features

  • Native desktop workspace with project registration, auto-discovery and folder selection.
  • Project pages with file browsing, read-only source previews, and the README below the files.
  • Completed-work history from GitHub with feature, fix, module, file, function, and author filters.
  • Planned work that combines local tasks with open GitHub issues, grouped by numeric version, including prerelease versions. Overview, project cards, All Tasks and Reports share the same task and commit counts.
  • Clickable project tags show every project with that exact tag, including archived ones.
  • Tasks, subtasks, notes, time tracking, work reports, and optional Git-based data synchronization.

Android companion

The companion manages projects, tasks, version plans and notes on your phone, with a dark interface throughout. It needs no source folders and no server. It reads public GitHub issues and completed commits, with meaningful-change, file and function filters. GitHub issues stay read-only. Cached work, local tasks and notes all work offline.

Transfer between desktop and phone is a manual JSON backup and restore. A desktop task export can seed the companion, keeping completed status and target versions, but it doesn't include notes or repository URLs yet. Companion backups can't be imported into the desktop app yet, and there's no automatic sync (#6, #7). Don't replace your desktop database with a companion backup.

Installation notes

  • No publisher code signing yet. Windows may show an "unknown publisher" prompt, and the macOS builds aren't notarized. The Android APK is self-signed.
  • The desktop interface is bundled, so no localhost server is needed. Windows uses the system WebView2 runtime, and the installer can download it if it's missing. Linux packages need a WebKitGTK 4.1 environment.
  • GitHub history and issue sync use the optional GitHub CLI: install gh and run gh auth login. Local tasks, files, notes and Git history work offline. GitHub issues stay read-only in DevTrack and link back to GitHub for editing.
  • Upgrading from a pre-release? Back up your database first, because this release adds a task-version column. Existing tasks are kept and appear as Unscheduled.

What's next

Native iOS and HarmonyOS companions (#2, #1), two-way desktop/phone transfer and automatic sync (#6, #7), and private repositories in the companion (#8). See the roadmap issues.
