In the vanilla game, there are only 2 sizes of overworld areas. The regular "small" area and a "large" area that is a 2x2 grid of small areas. The "Tall" area is a 1x2 grid of small areas, and the "Wide" area is a 2x1 grid of small areas. These options were added to the game to allow for more creative layouts.
**
Warping between areas of different sizes will result in some funky camera and tile loading behaviour. Different world layouts can still be used if you limit the player from warping between areas of different sizes.
***
The extra Special World areas that appear as the top-left quadrant of the Lost Woods in vanilla ROMs were previously unusable as normal overworld areas without serious ASM modification. Now they can be used for whatever you want.
****
The exits that control where the player appears when entering Zora’s Domain, the Master Sword area, or the area under the bridge were previously hardcoded to those areas and could not be moved. Now they can be moved wherever you want.
