🚨 Severity: MEDIUM
πŸ’‘ Vulnerability: The is_reachable function executed the ping system utility via subprocess.run without clearing the environment (using env=None implicitly). This allows the child process to inherit the parent process's environment variables.
🎯 Impact: This presents a risk of Environment Variable Injection. An attacker who controls the parent environment could manipulate variables like LD_PRELOAD or PATH to alter the utility's behavior or execute arbitrary code. It also unnecessarily exposes any sensitive secrets (like API keys) stored in the parent environment to the unprivileged child process.
πŸ”§ Fix: Added env={} to the subprocess.run call, strictly isolating the child process and enforcing the principle of least privilege.
βœ… Verification: Ran the test suite using pip install tqdm && python -m unittest test_testping1.py, which confirms the fix (via an updated assertion in the mocked subprocess.run call).

PR created automatically by Jules for task 1710556655300741897 started by @ManupaKDU

Added `env={}` to the `subprocess.run` call executing `ping`.
This acts as a defense-in-depth measure to prevent potential
Environment Variable Injection attacks (e.g., manipulating `PATH`
or `LD_PRELOAD`) and avoids unnecessarily exposing any sensitive
parent environment variables to the child process.
