Mod Updating
When a new version of a Mod is released, you want to update to it right away. However, you have two options on how to approach this process. Method 2 is the recommended option to try first.
The first method is the classic tried and true removing your existing Mod and importing the new version. While there's nothing wrong about this, it does mean any configurations to the Mod that you've made will be lost. If there's nothing to change in the Mod, then this method may be perfectly fine for you.
The second method however, tries to be a bit smarter about what goes on. If you attempt to import a Mod that has the same Mod Pack ZIP Archive file name as a Mod that is already imported, you'll get a warning message popup. This dialog will allow you to perform one of three options:
- Skip Mod Import
- Overwrite Existing
- Import As New Mod
For performing the in-place update, we want to focus on Option 2, Overwrite Existing. Once this is clicked, the currently Imported Mod with the matching file name will be replaced by the new Mod. Your Mod's Enabled status and Priority will be preserved along with any configuration options that have kept the same Group Order, Group Name, Option Order, and Option Name. For most cases these will not have changed and the update process will end up fully preserving all of your configuration choices! Should they not all line up, the ones that don't match will be set to the defaults specified in the new Mod Pack.
Note
As version numbers are not specifically checked and required to increment, this means you are actually able to use this process for downgrading an existing Mod as well. Or of course just re-importing the same version.
If you select the Import As New Mod option, instead of updating your existing Mod, an entirely new entry will be created and the Mod will be imported with a slightly modified ZIP Archive file name - a number will be appended and incremented if necessary.
The Skip Mod Import option will effectively cancel the import process for the Mods listed in the dialog.
Important
The action selected in this dialog is applied to ALL Mods shown in it, not just specific ones.
