Tessera 0.2.0 preview

The second Tessera preview release adds a complete suite of offline tools alongside the live widgets, weather, and calendar.

What's in it

• Offline Tools suite:
  • Calculator: High-precision decimal arithmetic (BigDecimal) with operator precedence, repeated equals, percentages, sign toggle, backspace, and zero-division protection. Tactile keypad with TalkBack accessibility.
  • Unit Converter: Instant conversions across Length, Mass, Volume, Temperature, Speed, and Area with exact factors and region-aware default pairs (US, UK, metric/SE).
  • Timer & Stopwatch: Countdown timer with quick presets (1m, 3m, 5m, 10m, 15m, 25m Pomodoro) and +1m bump. Lap stopwatch with split times and lap deltas. Completely battery-safe (runs in-app with 0 background alarms or notification permissions).
  • Days Between Dates: Total days, business days (Mon–Fri), weekend days, and calendar span breakdown (years, months, days) with quick offsets (+30d, +100d, month/year ends).
  • Tip & Split: Bill splitter with per-person calculation, tip presets, round-up toggle, and 3 percentage helper calculators.
  • Dice & Coin: Polyhedral dice roller (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, d100) with roll history and tactile coin flipper with running statistics.
  • Tally Counter: Giant tactile tap target, custom step sizes (+1, +5, +10, +50, +100), goal target alert, and persistent state.
• Home Screen Integration & Shortcuts:
  • "Tools" section on the Home screen to explore and open all utilities.
  • Direct deep links for all tools (tessera://open/<tool>).
  • Dynamic launcher shortcuts from app icon long-press and home-screen shortcut pinning.
• Home Screen Widgets & Daily Essentials:
  • Morning Paper widget (small, medium, large): date, launcher clock that never freezes, MET Norway weather, and next agenda event.
  • Up Next widget: multi-day calendar agenda with color indicators and + event quick action.
  • Weather: Forecasts from MET Norway without accounts or API keys. City search or privacy-preserving rounded location (~1 km).
  • Calendar customization: Select calendars, hide declined events, merge duplicates, or obscure event titles for privacy.
  • Health check: In-app diagnostics for battery optimization and background update health.
  • Paper (light) and Darkroom (dark) themes, or Android 12+ wallpaper dynamic color.

Install

1. On your phone (Android 8.0 or newer), download tessera-0.2.0-preview.apk below.
2. Open it. If Android asks, allow your browser or file manager to install apps.
3. Open Tessera, tap Add to home screen, or tap Tools to use the new offline utilities.

Good to know

• Preview build: Debug-signed, so it installs as its own app (com.zirren.tessera.debug). Uninstall the earlier preview if you experience any signature conflict.
• Checksum: Compare the download with SHA256SUMS.txt.
• Purely offline: Zero analytics, zero ads, zero accounts, and zero internet calls for the tools.

Tessera 0.1.0 preview

The first Tessera you can install: two widgets, live weather and your calendar. It hasn't been tested on many phones yet, so treat it as a preview.

What's in it

• Morning Paper widget (small, medium, large): date, a big clock that never runs late, today's weather ("Rain from 14:00") and your next event. The large size adds the next five hours.
• Up Next widget: today and the coming days from the calendars on your phone, with + to add an event.
• Weather from MET Norway, with no account and no API key. Search for a city or use your location (rounded to about 1 km).
• Your calendar, your way: choose calendars, hide declined events, merge duplicates, or show "Busy" instead of titles.
• Health check that answers "Why isn't my widget updating?" and offers one-tap fixes.
• Paper (day) and Darkroom (night) themes, or your wallpaper's colours on Android 12+.

Install

1. On your phone (Android 8.0 or newer), download tessera-0.1.0-preview.apk below.
2. Open it. If Android asks, allow your browser or file manager to install apps.
3. Open Tessera, tap Add to home screen, then choose a place under Weather.

Good to know

• Preview build: debug-signed, so it installs as its own app (com.zirren.tessera.debug). Uninstall it before installing a later preview. Version 1.0 will be signed with Tessera's own key and update in place.
• Checksum: compare the download with SHA256SUMS.txt.
• Not in this build yet: the widget editor. That comes next.
