@a-grah a-grah released this 14 Oct 20:28

First release of dvdForge: archive DVDs to lossless MKV on macOS, with careful handling of damaged discs.

Download dvdForge-1.0.zip, unzip it and drag dvdForge.app to Applications. It is signed with a Developer ID and notarised by Apple, so it opens without warnings. Universal: Apple Silicon and Intel, macOS 15 or later.

Highlights

  • Lossless MKV: video, AC3, DTS and subtitles copied bit for bit; LPCM stored as FLAC; chapters, languages and subtitle colours kept
  • Multi-pass, resumable reading in the style of ddrescue: healthy areas first, then narrowing down and retrying damage, with optional verification
  • Copes with drives that hang or drop off USB on scratches: stuck reads are recorded, and rips resume automatically when the disc comes back
  • Live view of what the drive is doing: sector map, damage close-up and an activity log
  • Rip reports beside every MKV, plus a Rip History window
  • Optional TMDb lookup for "Title (Year)" file names (bring your own free API key)
  • Batch mode: rip on insert, eject when done

See the README for details, settings and drive tips.
