Cycle Accurate GBA
guac’s GBA Emulation is now cycle accurate*! It now passes a ton of timing tests, including all AGS Aging Cartridge tests, all Hades tests, and Mgba Timing, Timer count-up and Timer IRQ tests. According to Emulation General Wiki, only 3 other emulators pass this combination of timing tests. Additionally, guac also properly emulates Classic NES Series games, very difficult to emulate roms, including The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Super Mario Bros.
This does not mean emulation is perfect; graphics still have a ton of work to be done. Many emulators that do not pass the above tests have a better combination of features, compatibility, and performance; however, this is a massive milestone for guac.
Some other notable difficult-to-emulate games that work now are:
- Hello Kitty Collection - Miracle Fashion Maker (Japan)
- Digimon Racing (Europe)
- James Pond - Codename Robocod
*CPU and subsystems are effectively cycle accurate. The only major exclusion is the ppu / graphics.
