Steering Rules — Release Notes

Rule Pack Reorganisation

All architecture rule packs have been migrated from the flat architecture/ and baseline/ directories into dedicated domain folders. Each domain now has its own pack.yaml and is independently loadable by the speckit agent.

New pack | Domain -- | -- arch-baseline/ | Resilience and retry arch-clean/ | Clean architecture arch-event-sourcing/ | Event sourcing arch-microservices/ | Distributed microservices arch-modmon/ | Modular monolith arch-streaming/ | Streaming architectures

New: Modular Monolith Rules (AMM prefix)

Added a new rule pack for modular monolith architecture — a response to the operational complexity of microservices. 10 rules covering the essential design constraints: mechanically enforced module boundaries, single-producer event types, acyclic module dependency graphs, business-capability-aligned modules, and single-artifact deployment. 5 rules are mandatory (definitional to the pattern); 5 are recommended best practices.

Updated: Resilience and Retry (RES prefix)

Reduced from 50 rules to 21. Removed overlapping and redundant rules; merged related rules into single concrete statements; converted all rules to EARS format. Corrected mandatory flags — circuit breaking (RES-08) and health signal patterns (RES-17) demoted to non-mandatory as both are deployment-context dependent.

Updated: Clean Architecture (CA prefix)

Reduced from 50 rules to 25. Merged rules addressing the same concern from different angles (e.g., dependency direction, error translation, testability). Dropped non-verifiable rules (cohesion, simplicity). All rules converted to EARS format.

Updated: Streaming Architectures (STREAM prefix)

Reduced from 50 rules to 27. Major consolidations: delivery semantics (3 rules → 1), retry classification (3 rules → 1), determinism and replay (3 rules → 1), time semantics (2 rules → 1), observability identifiers (2 rules → 1). Dead-letter handling elevated to mandatory. All rules converted to EARS format with correct use of WHEN/WHERE qualifiers for context-dependent rules.
