Google login does not work, the "Loading" spinner spins indefinitely

How to reproduce?

1. Run with new Ubuntu install (tried with both Firefox and Chromium)
2. Install Claude Desktop Release v1.1.6+claude0.13.37
3. Start the app
4. Click "Google" login button

Expected behavior

• Google login window shows up to select the account

Actual behavior

• The previous "Google" button spins indefinitely
• No login window is shown

Same issue on POP!_OS 24.04 (cosmic DE). Installed from the AppImage 0.13.37 using Gear Lever which worked fine on 22.04. The google login flow doesn't work i.e it doesn't launch a browser to authenticate. Possibly a Wayland / X11 compatibility issue?

I was able to log in by entering my email address in the field below the google login button. This starts a flow which sends a login link via email which can then be used to open the claude app.

@seanGSISG where do you see that error and at what stage? If you can be more specific about the exact sequence of events and at what stage you get the error, including whether it is in the app, browser, terminal, or log file, someone else might be able to help. Any information you can provide on OS, browser and version etc may also be useful. I did this a few days ago and don't remember exactly how the link opened the app, just that it worked. I don't know enough about how magic links work with electron apps to help further, sorry.

Ubuntu 24.04.3 , trying Release v1.1.6+claude0.14.4 after installing with sudo dpkg -i claude-desktop_0.14.4_amd64.deb
Same error. Using the Chrome dev tools and inspecting the app, I get a little more details :

Same issue with version 0.14.10 on (K)Ubuntu 25.10, tried both .deb and .AppImage to no avail.

Edit: As a workaround, you can simply sign in using your Google Email and click the activation link that is sent to your gmail address.

Expected:
A Google OAuth window should open to select account and complete sign-in.

Actual:
Spinner never completes; no OAuth window appears.
xdg-desktop-portal is running; default browser is set (google-chrome.desktop).
App starts and exits cleanly at times (Electron exited with code: 0), but auth still fails.

All the js below is minified, and the minified symbols might change version to version. Just an FYI.

$eipc_message$_77d4e567-c444-4f71-92e9-9f2fbad120fd_$_claude.web_$_Auth_$_doAuthInBrowser is having issues reading a variable isAvailable.

That handler is failing when calling await e.doAuthInBrowser(i);

Sc() is a check to see whether the claude-native module exists. We patch a stub in the build process, so there's no problem there.

In doAuthInBrowser(), claude-native is passed from Sc() to a.There's a conditional on a.AuthRequest.isAvailable(). Since AuthRequest.isAvailable() doesn't exist in the claude-native stub, the call fails and the browser to authenticate never opens.

Ideally, we need to return something so that if (a && a.AuthRequest.isAvailable() && t && fae(i)) evaluates to false., then we could crash through to the else statement at the end. That else statement is what pops the browser to authenticate with Google.

By adding the following class to the stub file, we return false for a.AuthRequest.isAvailable() and everything works as expected.
