Nublet 0.21.2

@abdullahdevrangga11 abdullahdevrangga11 released this 26 Sep 14:50

Install: download the DMG, drag Nublet to Applications, launch it. The build is signed with a
Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, so it opens with a double-click. Updating in place
voids Accessibility, as it does for every app that replaces its bundle: if a shortcut stops firing
after the update, toggle Nublet off and on in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility.

A crash-fix release, and nothing else. If Nublet has closed on you unexpectedly in the last week,
this is very likely why.

All three were found the same way: Nublet keeps its own crash log, and it had been quietly
collecting them. Seven crashes, three causes, every one of them in a shipped build.

Transcribing a silent recording

The most common crash in the app. A screen recording made with the microphone and system audio both
switched off has no audio track at all — and handing one to macOS's speech recogniser made it fail
inside its own code, on its own thread, in a way that took Nublet down with it. Nothing on our side
could catch it after the fact; the only fix was to not hand it over. Nublet now looks at the file
first and tells you there is no sound to transcribe.

A damaged file is told apart from a silent one, so you are not asked to re-record something that
only needed repairing.

Exporting a Motion edit

On certain frames the effects chain produced nothing at all, and the encoder treats nothing as
fatal. It was hard to see because the code insisted, in its types, that this could not happen — a
quirk of how one of Apple's frameworks reports a failure. Any frame that cannot be drawn now comes
out as the original footage, which is visibly imperfect for one frame instead of fatal for the
export.

Scroll capture and the floating shelf

Both animated their own window while it was being laid out, which drives macOS's layout into a loop
it abandons by quitting the app. They now move without animating the window itself.

This release deliberately carries nothing else. The rebuilt recorder and editor are landing on the
main line and will ship once they have been used by a person rather than only by tests.

Install: download the DMG, drag Nublet to Applications, launch it. The build is signed with a
Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, so it opens with a double-click — no right-click,
no Privacy & Security detour. Updating in place voids Accessibility, as it does for every app that
replaces its bundle: if a shortcut stops firing after the update, toggle Nublet off and on in
System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility.

A small release, and one of the fixes is the kind you should update for.

Nublet stops crashing while the speech model loads

If dictation was warming up when something asked it to reload — switching the Neural Engine
setting, waking from sleep, changing the model — two copies of the 632 MB model could end up
loading at the same time, and macOS's own machine-learning layer aborted the app outright. It
happened three times in a day on the machine this was found on.

Only one model load can run at a time now, whatever asks for it.

Area selection

Six fixes, all in the part of the screenshot overlay that runs after you have a rectangle on
screen — the half that was added last release and had never been lived with.

  • The magnifier no longer leaves copies of itself behind. Dragging a handle repainted the
rectangle but not the loupe, which follows your pointer — so the old one was never wiped and the
new one was drawn in slices. Nothing was ever wrong with the shot; it just looked broken while
    you were aiming it.

  • The scroll wheel steps in and out of nested elements, like [ and ]. It always had the
binding. A trackpad reports distance and a notched wheel reports lines, and the wheel's lines
were being measured against the trackpad's distance — so one level took about two dozen clicks of
the wheel, which feels exactly like a dead control.

  • Space still moves the selection after you let go of the mouse. It used to work only while the
button was down, which is the moment before the rectangle is worth positioning. Worse, the key
was being passed through to whatever was underneath, so nudging a selection over a video player
    played the video.

  • Hovering a handle now shows a resize pointer. The overlay had two cursors, a crosshair
outside the selection and a hand inside it, and a handle sits exactly on the line between them —
so the eight grips looked like the pixels next to them.

  • Dragging a selection no longer makes the screen behind it look soft or pixelated. The picture
you were selecting from was being re-filtered on every redraw while you dragged.

  • Clicking a detected window, button or panel takes the shot straight away. Nublet offered
handles to adjust it first, which made sense for a rectangle you drew by hand and no sense at all
for one the app had measured to the pixel. Drawing a selection yourself still gives you the
handles — that is the case they exist for. Screen recording still confirms either way, because a
wrong frame costs you the whole take.

The trial is seven days

It was fourteen. Seven is long enough to decide and short enough that you actually do.

Under the surface, a large amount of new machinery for the rebuilt recorder and video editor landed
in this release: the timeline's time model, the cursor and zoom engines, the frame and camera
layout, audio analysis, the export and GIF pipelines, the render path, and the editor's undo
history. None of it is wired to anything you can click yet, so nothing in the editor looks
different — it is groundwork for the next few releases, and it ships now because it is tested and
inert rather than sitting on a branch going stale.

Motion — the recorder and video editor, properly built

Recording a screen and editing it is the biggest change in this release. Motion now renders what it
promises: the cursor you were actually pointing with, the zooms you placed, the crop you set, the
webcam bubble, the transitions, the captions — all of it reaches the exported file, through one
render path instead of a preview that showed one thing and an export that produced another.

  • The pointer is drawn back in. Size, smoothing and the real pointer shape — an I-beam stays an
I-beam — instead of an arrow stamped on every frame. It leaves the frame when it stops meaning
    anything, and clicks can ripple.
  • A placed zoom is a clip you can see and drag, with auto-zoom from your own cursor activity,
spotlight, and a true cross-dissolve paid for out of the footage the cut removed.
  • Crop, frame styling and a webcam bubble that survives the export. The bubble reaches the file
through a compositor that can finally see a second track.
  • Captions, transcribed on this Mac, burned into the export — and correctable, which is the half
that makes the other half worth having.
  • Remove silences, as ordinary cuts you can take back.
  • ⌘Z undoes a Motion edit, and an edit survives closing the window.
  • Recordings live in their own place instead of buried among every screenshot, and the clipboard
can no longer delete one to make room for copied text.

Capture

  • Let go of an area drag and the rectangle stays, with eight handles: nudge it, resize it, move
it, then press ⏎. Two pixels off no longer means starting over. (Turn it off in Settings ▸ Capture
if you prefer the old release-and-shoot.)
  • Steer the element under the pointer — the scroll wheel or [ and ] walk out to the
container and back in to the child, with a breadcrumb showing where you are.
  • Right-click a screenshot to copy its text, and choose whether the card leaves after a copy or
stays so you can still drag the image somewhere.
  • Long shots stop repeating themselves. A page with a sticky header, a fixed bottom bar and a
floating badge is captured whole instead of coming back as one screen with the badge stamped six
    times.
  • Scroll-through video films the article instead of the navigation sidebar.
  • Nublet can take over the screenshot shortcuts you actually have bound, and a capture can be named
and tagged as it is filed.

Dictation and summaries

  • Live transcription starts in a second or two, not fifteen. Turning on the Neural Engine no
longer costs you the take while the model compiles.
  • Summaries come back in one language, named explicitly — an Indonesian video is summarised in
Indonesian, every time, not five times out of six.
  • A downloaded YouTube transcript reads as stamped paragraphs, not one 13,000-character line
with timestamps spliced through the middle of sentences.
  • A long source is read in pieces rather than cut off, and if part of it could not be read the
summary says so instead of presenting a quarter of a talk as the whole.
  • Summarise an article from a link, export a summary as Markdown, and see how long a decode has
left once that is not a guess.
  • One ⌘Z undoes a dictation, long transcriptions show progress and can be cancelled a second way,
and you can prove the microphone you picked can actually hear you.
  • Nublet stops deleting your speech model. A cleanup routine had been sweeping it on every launch
    since August.

Home and the notch

  • Capture and Dictate are tiles on Home, beside the player, with the chords that really fire —
Capture opens the HUD in the notch on ⌥⌘C.
  • A glance cell under them shows a running focus timer, then anything due, then your status
tokens. Right-click it to pin it to one.
  • Dark mode, a new app icon, and a Sound pane for the 34 sounds that were two toggles.
  • The stash fits the screen, takes a run of items at once, and keeps a selection when the notch
    closes.
  • A notch opened with the keyboard can be driven with the keyboard.
  • Stay quiet in apps you choose — the list existed and nothing could reach it.
  • Record a meeting from the alert that announces it.

Claude Code companion

The Agent page is real now: a session inbox, a collapsed pill that says how many sessions want you,
approval cards that show the change rather than just the filename, answering from the keyboard
without taking the keys hostage, quiet hours and standing approvals, and a Jump button that knows
which terminal a session is in.

Plus around two hundred fixes: a crash when a window resized itself from inside SwiftUI's layout
pass, event taps going deaf silently, the notch clipping its own pages, colour profiles on pasted
images, and a release that could report success after Apple's timestamp service refused it.

Nublet 0.20.0

@abdullahdevrangga11 abdullahdevrangga11 released this 25 Aug 06:58

Fullscreen video shows artwork and the visualizer again. Transcripts keep their timings — click a line to seek, and export as SRT, WebVTT, JSON, Markdown or text. Fixed the most common crash. Arrow keys change track. Copy a screenshot as SVG with its text kept as text, or a public page as self-contained HTML. The recorder gained transport controls, transcribes non-English speech, and stops when you close it. Permission buttons no longer dead-end, and a single failed licence check can no longer delete a paid key.

Requires macOS 14.6 or later. Signed and notarized.

Nublet 0.19.0

Your whole toolkit, in the notch. Voice, capture, clipboard, focus, and your coding agent — all on your Mac.

Install

  1. Download Nublet-0.19.0.dmg below, open it, and drag Nublet into your Applications folder.
  2. Open Nublet. macOS will refuse to launch it and may say the app "is damaged" — it isn't. This build isn't notarized yet, and that's the message macOS shows for any app it can't verify.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to "Nublet was blocked to protect your Mac", and click Open Anyway.
  4. Enter your Mac password, then click Open.

You only do this once. After that Nublet opens normally.

Prefer the terminal? xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Nublet.app clears it in one step.

Why this happens: notarizing a Mac app requires a paid Apple Developer account, which this project doesn't have yet. Nothing about the app changes once it's notarized — only this first-launch prompt goes away. The build is signed with a hardened runtime, and the source of every network call it makes is listed below.

Grant Accessibility

Most of Nublet lives on your keyboard, so it needs Accessibility to see the keys:

System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → enable Nublet

Without it the volume/brightness HUD, ⌘⇧3/4/5 capture, Fn dictation, and paste-back all quietly fall back to macOS defaults. Nublet never breaks — it just stops being the one in front.

What's in it

  • One HUD, not two. The notch replaces the macOS volume and brightness bezel with a single readout. If you'd rather keep the familiar bezel, there's a toggle to show both.
  • Dictation that stays home. Apple's on-device engine for everyday speech; an optional Whisper model covers ~99 languages including Indonesian.
  • A clipboard you can actually see. Visual history — search it, pin it, paste it back anywhere.
  • Capture without the ceremony. ⌘⇧3/4/5 land straight in Quick Access instead of a floating thumbnail.
  • A companion for your coding agent. Claude Code and Codex reactions live in the notch: every step, approve tool calls, answer its questions, and see what the session cost.
  • The rest. Focus timers, app blocking, a file shelf, camera, and now-playing controls.

Privacy

Your voice, clipboard, screenshots, and agent transcripts are processed on your Mac and never uploaded. The app makes three ordinary network calls that carry nothing personal: checking for a new version, validating a license key once if you buy Pro, and downloading the optional voice model if you ask for it.

Requirements

  • macOS 14.6 or later
  • Universal build (Apple silicon and Intel). The on-device rewrite model needs Apple silicon.

Pricing

Free to download and keep. A one-time Pro unlock turns on the power features — no subscription. The trial is the full Pro experience, no card and no account.
