Darkstar Robotics v0.4.0

@abelxmendoza abelxmendoza released this 24 Oct 17:16

Darkstar Robotics v0.4.0 — the integration release. Everything that was living on side branches and local trees is now on main, and this release is built from it.

What's in

  • Typed error handling (DarkstarCore) — every failure surfaces as a typed error with a plain-language message, the underlying diagnostic detail, and a recovery suggestion. No more silent dead buttons (e.g. the utmctl/UTM case now explains itself).
  • 74 automated tests — unit, integration, link, and end-to-end suites, all passing. The resource-awareness work (MemoryResources) is included with its tests.
  • Application Library catalog — the evidence-backed catalog (15 tools, 8 compatibility rules, 3 starter stacks) now lives in the repo at catalog/.
  • Omega-Ubuntu theme — the canonical GNOME theme at runtime/themes/omega-ubuntu/ (backup-first apply, exact restore).
  • Linux CLI (darkstar) — source in the repo (Sources/DarkstarCLI + DarkstarLink): links a Linux machine to the runtime VM over Tailscale/SSH, read-only. Build: swift build -c release --product darkstar --static-swift-stdlib.
  • Installer hardening — transactional install (payload validated, staged, backup-swap with restore on failure).
  • Packaging fixed — bundles are now built on a Mac, ad-hoc signed, with a baked AppIcon, and zipped with ditto. That fixes the "damaged or incomplete" failure that hit v0.3.0's Linux-assembled zips. The bundles are ad-hoc signed, not notarized, so the first open still needs the Open Anyway step described below.

Downloads

  • DarkstarRobotics-Installer-v0.4.0.zip — recommended: installs Darkstar Robotics 0.4.0 to /Applications.
  • DarkstarRobotics-v0.4.0.zip — the app bundle on its own.

First open (important): these builds are ad-hoc signed, not notarized (no Developer ID yet). On first open, macOS will warn that Apple could not verify the app — that is expected for this build. Dismiss the warning, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the Security section, and click Open Anyway for the installer. It is a one-time step; the app launches normally after that. (Terminal alternative: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine on the app.)

@abelxmendoza abelxmendoza released this 24 Oct 07:59

Darkstar Robotics v0.3.0 — first downloadable build.

BUILD • EXPLORE • DEPLOY

Downloads:

  • DarkstarRobotics-Installer-v0.3.0.zip — the graphical installer (recommended). Unzip it, open "Darkstar Robotics Installer", and click Install. It places Darkstar Robotics in /Applications, and re-running it later updates the app in place.
  • DarkstarRobotics-v0.3.0.zip — the app bundle alone, for manual installs (unzip and drag Darkstar Robotics to /Applications).

Requirements: macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon.

Notes: this is an unsigned community build. On first launch, right-click the app and choose Open (or approve it under System Settings → Privacy & Security). The app checks GitHub Releases for updates from Settings → Updates, only when you ask. Runtime features expect a configured UTM Linux VM (see the README).
