Release list
hrecord 1.14.4
Behind the scenes
- The version number now lives in one place, the
VERSIONfile: the program's own version (which its update check compares with the newest release), the packages and the app information all take it from there, so they can no longer disagree after a release.
Nothing else changes from 1.14.3 (the mouse wheel on every slider of hRecord Mixer, the stream key being kept, and a stream key for each streaming service).
Install
Install hrecord-1.14.4-1-x86_64.hpkg (or -x86_gcc2 on 32-bit Haiku) for the whole system. hrecord_stream is unchanged apart from its version number.
hrecord 1.14.3
Streaming
- The stream key is kept. Opening Stream settings in hRecord Mixer used to erase the saved key from the field, and Save then stored an empty one, so the key never came back. If you saved a key with an earlier version, enter it once more.
- Each service keeps its own key. YouTube (RTMPS and RTMP), Twitch, Facebook Live, another RTMP / RTMPS server and an RTSP server each have a stream key of their own (and the last two their own address). Choosing a service in the menu shows its key. A settings file from an earlier version still loads: its key goes to the service that was selected.
- Mouse wheel on every slider. Wheel up raises and wheel down lowers a source’s volume or balance, the mix volume, the limiter’s ceiling and its release. A notch moves a volume or the ceiling by 1 dB, a balance by 5 %, and the release by 10 ms.
Install
Install hrecord-1.14.3-1-x86_64.hpkg (or -x86_gcc2 on 32-bit Haiku) for the whole system. hrecord_stream is unchanged apart from its version number.
hrecord 1.14.0
Sources can start and stop during a recording
With --allaudio (what hRecord Mixer uses), you no longer need to have every program playing before you press Record:
- A program that starts playing while you record is tapped within about half a second and joins the mix. In hRecord Mixer it gets its own strip.
- A program that quits leaves the mix and its strip disappears. Its place is free for the next one to start, with volume, balance, mute and solo back at their defaults.
- If no source is left, the recording goes on (the audio carries on as silence) and the window says that a program that starts playing joins by itself.
A program that stays open but has finished playing keeps its strip, silent, until it quits: Haiku does not tell hrecord when a program's sound player is gone while the program lives.
Streaming
- The reminder about not unmuting a browser's preview of your own stream is gone from the status line. (Mute on the source's strip still stops an echo if you do get one.)
Install
Install hrecord-1.14.0-1-x86_64.hpkg (or -x86_gcc2 on 32-bit Haiku) for the whole system. For streaming, install hrecord_stream the same way.
hrecord 1.13.1
Fixes
- Mute and Solo in hRecord Mixer now work. The boxes on each source strip always told hrecord "off", so a click had no effect. Mute and Solo are now read from the strip itself.
Streaming
- While a stream is running, the status line now reminds you to keep a browser's preview of your own stream muted: an unmuted preview is recorded back into the stream as an echo. If it happens anyway, the Mute box on that source's strip stops it.
Install
Install hrecord-1.13.1-1-x86_64.hpkg (or -x86_gcc2 on 32-bit Haiku) for the whole system. hrecord_stream is unchanged in behaviour (only its version number moves with hrecord's), so streaming works with it as before.
hrecord 1.13.0
Live streaming (new)hrecord can now stream the screen and the sound live while it records to the file, to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook Live and other RTMP / RTMPS servers, or to an RTSP server. If the stream breaks, the recording to the file goes on.
- In hRecord Mixer, tick Stream live and open Stream settings… to choose the service, paste the stream key and set the bitrates and the encoder speed. The size and frame rate follow the Screen quality menu. The settings and the stream key are kept in your settings folder, readable by your account only.
- On the command line:
hrecord start --stream <address>, with--stream-bitrate,--stream-audio-bitrate,--stream-presetand--stream-keyint.--stream-envtakes the address from the environment variableHRECORD_STREAM_URL, so the stream key is not in the command line. - If the connection cannot be made, hrecord says so before it starts recording.
Streaming needs H.264 video, which Haiku's ffmpeg does not have. It comes in a separate, optional package, hrecord_stream: a small add-on built on x264 (so it is GPL, and hrecord itself stays MIT). Without it, a click on Stream live opens this release page, and nothing else changes. No reboot is needed after installing it.
Left and right meters
Every source strip and the master section now have a left and a right level bar. A source's bars follow its own volume and balance, so moving the balance slider moves them. The master "before" and "after" the limiter are stereo too. As a result the --meter line of hrecord now shows two values for each source and for the mix, left then right.
Install
Install hrecord-1.13.0-1-x86_64.hpkg (or -x86_gcc2 on 32-bit Haiku) for the whole system. For streaming, install hrecord_stream the same way.
hrecord 1.12.1
hRecord Mixer shows the driver's real-time audio setting
The mixer window used to have a "Real-time" checkbox, although hrecord already reads the sound driver's settings and uses real-time buffers by itself when the driver is tuned for them. The window now shows what hrecord will actually do:
- Tuned driver: "Real-time audio: on (N frames)", ticked and greyed out
- Known driver, not tuned: "Real-time audio: off", greyed out, with a note that it is set in the driver settings
- A driver hrecord has no profile for: the checkbox stays, so
--realtimecan still be forced on
The window checks again each time you press Record, so a change in the driver settings is picked up. For this, hrecord has a new --detect-realtime option that prints the state and exits.
Install
Install hrecord-1.12.1-1-x86_64.hpkg (or -x86_gcc2 on 32-bit Haiku) for the whole system, so the mixer window finds the hrecord it runs.
hrecord 1.12.0
Mixing several sources without clipping
hrecord start --allaudio used to average every source, which could not clip but got quieter with each source added. It now mixes each source at its own gain, scaled by 1/√N, and a lookahead peak limiter keeps the result under a ceiling of -1 dBFS. Several loud sources recorded at once no longer clip.
New options:
--meterand--meter-ms <n>print each source's peak and the mix before and after the limiter, with a summary at the end--ceiling <dB>,--no-limiter,--mix-gain <dB>and--source-gain <n>=<dB>--controlreads live commands from stdin:gain, mute, solo, pan, mixgain, ceiling, release, limiterandquit
hRecord Mixer (new)
A window for --allaudio recording. Press Record and every playing source gets a strip with a level meter, a volume fader, left/right balance, mute and solo. The master section has a mix fader, meters before and after the limiter, the limiter's on/off, ceiling and release, and a gain-reduction bar. A right-click on a fader or balance slider resets it. It comes with its own icon and an entry in the Deskbar's Applications menu.
Fixes
- Apps that hrecord recorded no longer linger in Media preferences' Audio mixer after they quit. An app disconnects from the Mixer input it first connected to, and hrecord's recording moves it to a new one, so the app's own disconnect missed. hrecord now leaves a small helper that removes the leftover input once the app has quit.
- Starting hrecord again while the sources keep playing works without restarting them.
Install
Install hrecord-1.12.0-1-x86_64.hpkg (or -x86_gcc2 on 32-bit Haiku) for the whole system, so the mixer window finds the hrecord it runs.
