# Rakarrack for Haiku 0.6.2 (revision 3)
The Haiku port of Rakarrack, rebased onto the latest upstream code (0.6.2, 2011 git). It replaces the older 0.6.1-based rakarrack-haiku.
What's new in revision 3
- Help Contents works again. It opens the help pages in your default web browser. Upstream ships its help pages and data files marked as executable, so Haiku tried to run
help.htmlinstead of opening it. The files are plain files again, and the page is now opened through the default handler for HTML. - F12 now toggles fullscreen. It used to enter fullscreen but never leave; pressing F12 again restores the window to its previous size and position.
What's new in revision 2
- Fixed false "Update Available" notices. The update checker was still reading the version file of the old
rakarrack-haikurepository, so it always reported a newer version. It now checks this repository, compares the revision as well as the version, and ignores a failed download. - Fixed audio dropouts when turning on "Hide Inactive Effects". The rack was rebuilt while holding the audio lock, which starved the audio thread and filled the terminal with
RequestBuffer failed/Backlog clearedmessages. The GUI now applies the change outside the audio lock and only moves the effects that need to move, several times faster.
What's new in 0.6.2
From upstream 0.6.2
- New Infinity effect.
- Delay-line based effects (Echo, Echotron, Dual Flange, Sequence, Chorus/Flanger "Intense" mode), a Shifter "Portamento" mode, and a new MuTroMojo mode.
- Beat Tracker as a Tap Tempo source, a +6dB final limiter, new LFO types and new presets (Infinity, SmoothTron).
- Help pages now document the Infinity effect, the Chorus/Flanger "Intense" mode and the +6dB limiter.
Haiku-specific
- The native Haiku GUI (
rakarrack -H) has all of the new controls: Infinity, the +6dB limiter, Intense/Subtract/Invert/Stereo toggles, and the new modes and LFO types. - New Tap Tempo panel with GUI, MIDI note, MIDI clock and Beat Tracker inputs.
- Chorus and Flanger now have Wet/Dry, Pan, Rnd and LFO Type controls.
- With Hide Inactive Effects on, active effects flow across the four columns in signal-chain order, with no empty gaps.
- Works from both a system install and a user install (
~/config/packages); data files are found wherever the package is installed. - A HaikuPorts-style recipe is included (
haiku/rakarrack-0.6.2.recipe); it builds both 64-bit and 32-bit.
Fixes
- Loading a bank now releases the previous bank's effects. Before, effects from the old bank stayed switched on and were mixed into the new one (and received tap-tempo changes).
- Fixed an upstream crash on startup in the Chorus effect (it read uninitialised memory).
- Fixed an upstream out-of-bounds read/write of one sample in the audio loops.
- Restored the original license headers that had been overwritten in most source files.
- Added a missing
pthread.hinclude inrakarrack.cxx.

Also available
The 0.6.1-based port is still maintained: https://github.com/ablyssx74/rakarrack-haiku/releases (v16 includes the bank-release, Hide Inactive layout, data-path and audio-stall fixes).
Build from source
make -f haiku.makefile release
Or build with haikuporter using haiku/rakarrack-0.6.2.recipe. On a 32-bit hybrid, build the rakarrack_x86 package.
Known limitations
- The Reverb effect is disabled above 48 kHz sample rates (unstable output at higher rates).
- No JACK or ALSA support; audio and MIDI use the Haiku Media and MIDI2 kits. Jack-transport tap tempo is not available.
- Velocity, MIDI mapping and ACI are not supported (as in the previous port).
- Beat Tracker and the new tap-tempo panel have had limited testing with real playing.
- If Haiku's real-time audio configuration isn't detected, the app shows a warning at startup.
