Skill Manager v0.4.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Aug 08:17

What's new

  • ✅ The collections browser now remembers what you've installed. The "installed ✓" badge was session-only — it disappeared every time you left the browser or restarted the app. It's now derived from the skills the app actually manages, so it sticks across visits and restarts, the collection toolbar shows a live "· N installed" count, and an installed skill can still be reinstalled into another tool or project (the badge no longer replaces the button).

Full changelog: v0.4.1...v0.4.2

Skill Manager v0.4.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Aug 07:55

What's new

  • 🛠 Fixed: installing large skills no longer fails with "GitHub rate limit reached." Installing previously made one GitHub API request per file — big skills (docx, xlsx, pptx and friends carry 50+ files each) needed more requests than GitHub's entire 60/hour anonymous budget, so the install died mid-download and every retry failed until the hour reset. Installs now download a single repository tarball from codeload instead, which doesn't count against that limit at all.
  • ⬇️ The website now shows your platform's download first — one "Download for macOS / Windows / Linux" button instead of a row of three to scan (other platforms stay one click away underneath).
  • 🧰 Skills installed from collections keep their scripts' executable bit.
  • 🛡 Hardening: every network response is capped at 64 MiB.

What's new

📥 Browse & install skills from GitHub collections

Curated skill collections — Anthropic's skills, Superpowers, and Matt's skills — now ship inside the app:

  • Browse and search them completely offline — the catalog is bundled with the build, so opening it costs no GitHub API calls
  • One-click install into any tool's user or project skills folder (with an explicit overwrite confirmation when a skill already exists)
  • Add any owner/repo collection of your own
  • Every install records its source (repo, path, tree SHA) in a .collection-source.json provenance file — the foundation for update support later

✨ Create skills from a template

Start a new skill from a minimal template in any tool's folder — user or project scope — and write its instructions in the built-in markdown editor.

Also in this release

  • Smarter add-project picker with persisted, cached suggestions
  • Internal refactor to a layered module structure (no behavior change)

Note

Builds are still unsigned — macOS Gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen will warn on first launch. See the README's Download section for the one-time steps to open the app.

v0.3.1

@abubakarsiddik31 abubakarsiddik31 released this 16 Aug 07:52

Orbit branding update

Skill Manager now ships with the new Orbit logo across the product.

  • Updated the app, website, favicon, and landing-page logo.
  • Regenerated macOS .icns, Windows .ico, and PNG application icons.
  • Kept the monochrome visual system for a clean, consistent look across desktop platforms.

Installation note

v0.3.1 is not code-signed or notarized by Apple, and its Windows installer is not signed by a verified publisher.

Download installers only from this project’s GitHub Releases page.

  • macOS: click Done, then Control-click the app → Open → Open, or use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.
  • Windows: on the SmartScreen warning, choose More info → Run anyway.

Code signing and notarization are in progress. Optional sponsorship helps support that work:

v0.3.0

Privacy-first project discovery

Project discovery now respects folder boundaries instead of scanning projects in the background.

  • Recent-project discovery is opt-in.
  • The app explains that discovery may request access to folders referenced by your editor and agent history.
  • Project skill counts are cached after you explicitly open a project.
  • Startup uses cached counts and no longer rescans every tracked project.
  • Unknown counts are shown as “open to check skills” instead of silently reading folders.
  • Cached counts are cleared after a project skill is deleted.

Installation and support

  • Added clearer first-launch guidance for unsigned macOS and Windows builds.
  • Added a GitHub Sponsors link for optional support toward code signing and notarization.

Notes

Skill Manager v0.3.0 is not code-signed or notarized by Apple, and the Windows installer is not signed by a verified publisher. Download installers only from this project’s GitHub Releases page.

macOS: click Done, then Control-click the app → Open → Open, or use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

Windows: on the SmartScreen warning, choose More info → Run anyway.

what's new

full agentskills.io ecosystem

  • sidebar is now tool-level: 13 tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, VS Code/Copilot, Goose, Amp, Crush, Roo Code, Kiro, Junie, Factory Droid) across 11 verified skills folders
  • shared ~/.agents/skills is a first-class folder — tools that read it show the same skills with "seen by" chips and a one-copy-on-disk warning when toggling
  • each tool's view shows every folder it reads (own vs compat, missing folders dimmed)

effortless project setup

  • detected projects: the app finds folders you already work in — Claude Code history, Cursor/VS Code recents, git repos — and suggests them as one-click adds (home/container folders filtered out)
  • suggested rows in the sidebar with activity time, and a searchable add-project picker
  • pin tools and projects to the top of the sidebar
  • sidebar shows pins + your top 3 most-used projects (30-day window); "+ n more" opens a searchable all-projects dialog
  • every project row shows its skill count; both lists can sort by use or by skill count

housekeeping

  • redesigned sidebar footer (version, release notes, bug report links)
  • author metadata, MIT license field in package.json

note: builds are still unsigned — macOS Gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen will warn on first launch. see the bypass instructions in the README. signed builds are on the roadmap.

The problem

If you use more than one AI coding agent — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode — your skills are scattered across ~/.claude/skills, ~/.codex/skills, ~/.cursor/skills, and ~/.config/opencode/skills, with no shared way to see what's installed, what it does, or whether it's even active. Disabling one means either deleting it or hand-editing config. There's no view across tools, and no per-project breakdown of what's actually wired into a given codebase.

Skill Manager is a free, open-source desktop app that fixes this. One dashboard, every tool, full control.

What's in v0.1.0

  • Unified view across Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenCode skill directories
  • Enable / disable any skill without deleting it (moves to a reversible .disabled/ folder — never touches the tool's own config)
  • Edit a skill's SKILL.md directly from the app
  • Delete skills you no longer need
  • Per-project breakdown — track individual project folders and see exactly which skills are installed inside each one, separate from your global skills
  • Native builds for macOS (Apple Silicon + Intel via universal binary), Windows, and Linux (.deb, .rpm, .AppImage)

Known limitations

Claude Code's skill directory convention is fully supported and well-tested. Codex, Cursor, and OpenCode's directory paths are best-effort — those tools haven't settled on one documented convention yet. If you know the real path for one of them, a PR is very welcome.
