Spawn Manager 0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@mweidle73 mweidle73 released this 18 Oct 09:41
a840f35

Highlights

  • Fixed protocol 2 adds explicit stderr-to-stdout merging through one shared open file description. Independent output streams remain supported.
  • Catchable manager shutdown waits for its executor to reap request descendants, with bounded fail-stop behavior if reaping cannot complete.
  • The canonical upstream and documentation now live under abuild-project; historical branches are retained.
  • Public contribution/security guidance, lightweight templates and release-tag integrity checks are included.

Compatibility

Upgrade the library and manager together: protocol 1 remains historical, and there is no version negotiation or compatibility fallback. Shell execution semantics, exact structured arguments/environments and privilege restrictions are retained. Security support covers the latest stable release.

Verification

The rootless Debian Trixie suite and generated documentation pass, including golden protocol frames, shared-output descriptor checks and actual-manager SIGINT/SIGTERM reaping tests. No native performance improvement is claimed by this release.

Spawn Manager 0.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@mweidle73 mweidle73 released this 27 Sep 09:19

Spawn Manager 0.2.0 introduces structured process execution while preserving the compatible Bash command API.

Highlights

  • Adds direct execution with an exact executable, argv, replacement environment, working directory, split output streams and precise terminal results.
  • Defines a fixed, bounded and independently tested version 1 wire protocol.
  • Routes shell and structured requests through one supervised execution core and removes spawn_wrapper.
  • Hardens process groups, signal state, descriptor closure, timeout cleanup, descendant reaping, pool cleanup and no_new_privs containment.
  • Adds protocol golden bytes, exact-frame transport tests, direct POSIX lifecycle tests and comparative benchmarks.
  • Documents the protocol, process lifecycle and the intentional boundary between Anet socket ownership and Spawn Manager framing.

Verification

  • 22 direct POSIX-core tests and 66 Spawn Manager Ada, protocol, transport and integration tests pass on Debian Trixie.
  • The Abuild integration passes 764 tests plus archive, installation, bundle-version and SIGINT process-group checks against the released commit.

Follow-up validation

Native performance measurements on the remaining release architectures and continued reference-product validation remain tracked work. Any discovered defect will be delivered as a patch release without silently changing the version 1 contract.
