Austria Smartmeter for Home Assistant — Documentation

Welcome to the documentation hub for the Austria Smartmeter custom integration (domain asm). It retrieves energy data from Austrian grid operator web portals and publishes it into Home Assistant.

This wiki documents two lines of the integration at the same time. Use the tables below to pick the right document — or go straight to Current (1.2.x) or Archived (1.1.8).

🚦 Which documentation do I need?

Your situation Read
You run the pre-release 1.2.0-beta.1 from branch HA2026_09_dev (Home Assistant 2026.9+) Current documentation
You run v1.1.8 from main, or any older release Archived documentation
You want to understand why something is built the way it is Architecture Design Document
You want to understand how it works module by module Software Design Document
You want to see the flows and diagrams Workflow Diagrams
You want to add another grid operator Adding a New Provider

🟢 Current line — integration 1.2.x

Branch HA2026_09_dev · version 1.2.0-beta.1 (pre-release) · requires Home Assistant 2026.9+

Document Contents
📐 Architecture Design Document (ADD) Requirements, system context, component decomposition, 12 architectural decisions (AD-1…AD-12), cross-cutting concerns, deltas vs. 1.1.8, quality attributes, risks and the roadmap.
🧩 Software Design Document (SDD) Module inventory, class diagram, the three interface contracts, component-by-component design, sequence diagrams, error handling matrix, localisation, build/verify/release process, traceability.
🗺️ Workflow Diagrams The GitDiagram repository map (17 components, 23 connections) plus the setup, update, login, entity-creation and state-class workflows.
🛠️ Adding a New Provider Step-by-step developer guide for the current architecture, with a full adapter skeleton and a test checklist.

What is new in 1.2.x

  • Netz Niederösterreich works: the login endpoint typo is fixed, the modern metering point API is used (with automatic legacy fallback), readings are parsed from the real response shape and converted from kWh to Wh.
  • Home Assistant 2026.9 compatibility: entry.runtime_data, ConfigFlowResult, read-only OptionsFlow.config_entry, integration_type.
  • Correct statistics semantics: period-based consumption is no longer declared as a cumulative total_increasing meter reading.
  • Brand images shipped inside the integration (icon + logo, light + dark).
  • Diagnostics with credential redaction, downloadable from the integration page.
  • Smaller dependency surface: only lxml remains; requests and python-dateutil come from Home Assistant Core.

🗄️ Archived line — integration 1.1.8

Branch main · version 1.1.8 · Home Assistant 2025.12 era

These pages are kept unchanged for reference. They describe the design before the 2026.9 modernisation and still contain the Netz NÖ login defect that was fixed on the current line.

Document Notes
🗄️ Design Documentation 1.1.8 (ACD + SDD) The former front page of this wiki, preserved verbatim, with an added list of known defects.
🗄️ Extend the integration to support a new energy provider The former provider guide for the 1.1.8 architecture.

Migrating from 1.1.8 to 1.2.x is a breaking change: 1.2.x needs Home Assistant 2026.9 or newer. hacs.json pins homeassistant: 2026.9.0, so HACS only offers the release to compatible systems. Existing entity ids and unique ids are unchanged.
