Release v2.0.0 - Effective Critical Plane (ECP) Approach Implementation
We are excited to announce the initial release of the ECP repository, which introduces the Effective Critical Plane (ECP) method for advanced fatigue strength assessment in structural components.
New Features & Enhancements
-
ECP Method Implementation:
- Integrated the ECP approach that averages the stress–strain field over a small, material-dependent volume to improve fatigue life predictions, particularly in regions with stress concentrations (e.g., notches and welds).
-
Comprehensive Critical Plane Analysis:
- Includes both Fatemi–Socie (FS) and Smith–Watson–Topper (SWT) methods for a complete evaluation of critical plane factors.
- Updated MATLAB scripts (
MAIN_FS.mandMAIN_SWT.m) compute FS and SWT parameters based on ANSYS simulation results.
-
Robust Calibration & Prediction Workflow:
- The
MAIN_ECP.mscript performs calibration, fatigue life prediction, and prevision data processing. - Dual-run strategy: First run to determine the optimal control radius from calibration data, followed by a second run that scales the ECP factor using the obtained optimal value.
- The
-
Structured Repository:
- The project is organized into clear folders for FEM post-processing, critical plane evaluation, and ECP analysis with dedicated subfolders for calibration, correction, prevision, and results data.
Getting Started
-
Pre-Processing:
Use the ANSYS post-processing macro in the_1_FEM_PostProcessingfolder to generate the required input files. -
Critical Plane Evaluation:
Run the provided MATLAB scripts in_2_CriticalPlaneEvaluationto compute FS and SWT parameters. -
ECP Analysis:
Place your calibration and experimental data in the respective subfolders under_3_ECP, and runMAIN_ECP.maccording to the instructions in the README.
