Installation

  1. Download KeyboardBacklight.zip, unzip it and move the app to your Applications folder.
  2. Open the app. It isn't notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks the first launch: close the message, then click Open Anyway in System Settings › Privacy & Security.
  3. Allow Accessibility access – without it the keys can't be captured.

Requirements: macOS 14 or later, a Mac with a keyboard backlight. Built for Apple silicon and Intel.

What's new in 1.1

  • Five languages: English, German, French, Spanish and Italian – the app follows the system language.
  • Turn ambient light back on: new option "Turn back on after" (5 min – 8 h) under "Adjust to ambient light". After the chosen time without a manual change, the app turns the macOS automatic keyboard brightness back on.
  • Simpler settings: no more Close, Swap or "capture keys" switch – the keys are always active while the app runs.
  • Clicking outside closes the settings, also after opening the app manually with the menu bar icon hidden.
