LifeThing
A cellular automata display with genetic color inheritance, age-based saturation enhancement, and smooth fade animations. Cells evolve and compete in an ambient background simulation.
Interaction: Tap anywhere on the screen to randomize and restart the simulation.
Settings
Visual Appearance
Background Color - Set background using hex color (e.g., #000000)
Cell Color - Default cell color for standard mode (hex)
Cell Size (Zoom Level) - Size of each cell in pixels (2-50px)
Cell Padding - Spacing between cells (0-50px)
Cell Corner Radius - Rounded corners for cells (0-20px)
Bottom Margin - Empty space at bottom to avoid music progress bar (0-100px)
Animation & Timing
Simulation Speed - Time between generations in milliseconds (100-4000ms)
Fade Transition - Portion of generation time spent fading (0-1)
Stable Display Time - Additional display time after fade completes (0-2000ms)
Simulation Behavior
Wrap Around Edges - Whether opposite screen edges connect as neighbors
Show Neighbor Influence - Display dead cells with opacity based on living neighbors
Neighbor Opacity Increment - Opacity increase per neighbor (0.01-0.5)
Color Mode
Color Mode - Enable color inheritance system
Random Color Injection - Chance for new cells to get mutated colors (0-1)
Pure Random Colors - Use completely random vs. tweaked inherited colors for mutations
Age Saturation Boost - Maximum saturation enhancement for aged cells (0-1)
Max Saturation Age - Generations needed to reach maximum saturation (1-50)
Color Features
When Color Mode is enabled, cells inherit averaged colors from their living neighbors, weighted by age. Older cells have stronger influence. Long-lived cells gradually become more saturated, while mutations maintain variety in the simulation.
