NEURONIX OS v1.0.0: The Declarative Linux Distribution

NEURONIX OS v1.0.0 marks the first general availability release of an opinionated, production-grade Linux distribution built on NixOS. This release bridges declarative immutability and user-centric desktop accessibility through an automated Calamares installation engine, 27 hardware compatibility profiles, a graphical control center, and one-command developer environments.

Key Capabilities

1. Graphical Calamares Installation Engine

  • Automated partitioning engine establishing a high-performance Btrfs subvolume layout (@, @nix, @home, @snapshots, and @swap with Copy-on-Write disabled).
  • Transparent Zstandard (zstd:3) filesystem compression.
  • Dedicated 1.0 GiB FAT32 EFI System Partition with automated 15-generation retention ceiling preventing boot partition exhaustion.
  • Dynamic generation of pure, reproducible flake.nix and hardware-configuration.nix configurations during installation.

2. 27 Declarative Hardware & Subsystem Profiles

  • Memory Pressure Protection: Active ZRAM swap formatted with Zstandard compression and systemd-oomd Pressure Stall Information (PSI) monitoring. Aggressively tuned kernel parameters (vm.swappiness = 180, vm.page-cluster = 0, vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 50).
  • Audio Subsystem: PipeWire and WirePlumber audio server with high-resolution Bluetooth codecs (LDAC, AptX HD, LC3Plus) and analog DAC pop elimination.
  • Power & Thermal Regulation: S0ix Modern Standby sleep management and 80% battery charging threshold limit for hardware longevity.
  • Graphics & Display: NVIDIA PRIME offload, Mesa VA-API hardware video acceleration, and Wayland fractional scaling (HiDPI / 4K).
  • Dual-Boot Compatibility: Automated RTC local time synchronization with Microsoft Windows and UEFI bootloader discovery.
  • Enterprise Networking: Automatic captive portal detection for public Wi-Fi networks and corporate Root CA trust store helper (neuronix-add-ca).

3. Native Foreign Binary Execution (nix-ld)

  • Integrated nix-ld dynamic loader providing seamless execution of standard pre-compiled FHS Linux binaries (VS Code extensions, Go/Node runtimes, proprietary games) without requiring containerization.

4. NEURONIX Center (neuronix-center)

  • Graphical control center and CLI management interface (--cli).
  • Telemetry dashboard reporting active generation, kernel release, hardware specifications, and storage compression statistics.
  • Instantaneous atomic rollback mechanism (neuronix undo) reverting system generations in under 2 seconds.

5. One-Command Developer Stacks (neuronix dev)

  • Ephemeral, hermetic developer environments isolated in RAM:
    • neuronix dev python: Python 3.12, uv, Ruff, Pyright, PostgreSQL
    • neuronix dev rust: Rustc, Cargo, rust-analyzer, Clippy, Mold
    • neuronix dev node: Node.js 20 LTS, pnpm, TypeScript, ESLint
    • neuronix dev ai: PyTorch, CUDA, Ollama, JupyterLab, Pandas
    • neuronix dev go: Go, gopls, golangci-lint, Delve
    • neuronix dev web3: Rust, Cargo, Node.js, Solana CLI

Verification & Quality Assurance

  • 100% Automated Test Suite Clearance:
    • 199/199 Distro Integration Tests Passed (tests/test_distro_suite.sh)
    • 506/506 Master Resilience Tests Passed (tests/run_all_tests.sh)
    • Total: 705 Automated Tests Passed with zero regressions
  • Security Posture:
    • Zero-Trust execution model
    • Kernel read-only /nix/store VFS enforcement
    • Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure policy defined in SECURITY.md
