Logbook

Logbook

Every QSO logged from FT8/FT4, JS8, CW or by hand goes into one ADIF logbook. The LOG button in the top bar opens it: the list, the Add QSO form (pre-filled with the rig's frequency and mode), and the Log management menu.

Where the log lives

  • Server build: a file on the server, logbook.adi in wfweb's data directory (~/.local/share/wfweb/wfweb/ on Linux, /data/wfweb/wfweb/ in Docker); --logbook <file> puts it elsewhere. It is shared by every browser and sized for a lifetime log. Each QSO carries your station callsign as STATION_CALLSIGN.
  • Standalone: the log is kept in the browser's storage. Export it before clearing site data or changing browser.

Every browser hands its log to the server on first connect, so a log kept in a browser before the server had one is not lost.

Log management

  • Download the QSOs not yet exported as plain ADIF, ready for LoTW, QRZ, Club Log, eQSL.
  • Download the full logbook.
  • Import an ADIF file, skipping duplicates.

Remote logging (Server build)

wfweb --remote-log 192.168.1.50 # GridTracker, JTAlert, Log4OM… ; port 2237 if omitted
wfweb --remote-log 192.168.1.50 --remote-log-decodes

Every logged QSO is sent as a WSJT-X "QSO logged" UDP message, which those programs already accept; --remote-log-decodes forwards FT8/FT4 decodes too (GridTracker's map wants them). It is set on the server only, by flag or [RemoteLog] in the settings file, never from a browser; the FT8 panel shows whether it is on.

Worked-before hints

FT8/FT4 decodes show the sender's DXCC entity, a gold star for an entity never worked, a silver star for one not yet worked on this band, and dim stations already worked on this band. Both hints can be switched off in the station settings. The entity table is built into the page.

REST

The logbook is reachable over the REST API: paged listing, ADIF import and export, and the station callsign. See REST_API.md.

Things to know

  • The QSO time is the browser's clock, in UTC. A device with the wrong time zone logs the wrong date.
  • One station callsign, set in the gear dialog, is used by every mode and the log.
