Icom menu settings

Most "it connects but…" reports come down to a menu on the radio. These are the ones that matter, with the IC-7300 paths; other Icoms have the same items under slightly different names.

CI-V over USB: control and scope

MENU › SET › Connectors › CI-V

Item Set to Why
CI-V USB Port Unlink from [REMOTE] Otherwise the USB port mirrors the slow [REMOTE] jack and the scope data cannot get through.
CI-V USB Baud Rate 115200 wfweb auto-detects the rate, but the scope needs the fast one.
CI-V USB Echo Back OFF Echo doubles every frame.
CI-V Transceive ON (default) The radio announces its own changes; wfweb relies on it.

A black waterfall with Rig (FA) error, last command sent: "Scope Data Output" in the log is this menu: the radio is refusing to send scope data (#132). Use the USB cable for the scope: the [REMOTE] jack and plain CI-V adapters are too slow for it.

Older rigs cap the CI-V rate below 115200 (IC-7600, IC-7100, IC-9100, IC-706, IC-718 and others at 19200). wfweb's rig files carry the cap and the auto-detect tries the lower rates, so leave the radio at its maximum.

USB audio

MENU › SET › Connectors › ACC/USB AF Output Level: the level of the audio the radio sends over USB. Set it so the browser's level is comfortable without clipping; wfweb's VOL is applied after it.

MENU › SET › Connectors › USB MOD Level and DATA OFF MOD = USB: the browser's microphone reaches the radio as USB audio, so modulation must come from USB with DATA off. wfweb sets DATA OFF MOD to the right input when the browser mic is enabled and restores the radio's own setting when the mic goes off, the browser disconnects or the server stops; on a rig with several inputs (IC-7610: USB, LAN, ACC) it picks the one that matches the connection.

MENU › SET › Connectors › ACC/USB AF SQL: ships OFF (OPEN). The radio squelches its own speaker but not the USB audio unless this is ON. If the SQL slider in GAIN makes no difference to what you hear, this is why (#146).

MENU › SET › Connectors › ACC/USB AF Beep/Speech… Output: ships OFF. ON sends the radio's own CW sidetone (and its beeps) over USB. Turn it on, and the browser's TONE off, when you key from a paddle plugged into the radio and want true full break-in; otherwise leave it off and let the browser make the sidetone. See Operating CW.

RTTY

MENU › SET › Function › RTTY Mark Frequency (2125 Hz by default): where the radio puts the mark tone in its RTTY mode. The RTTY bar's mark tone selector must match it, or the decoder listens beside the signal. Leave both at 2125. wfweb transmits RTTY as AFSK on LSB through the same USB audio path as FT8, so nothing else needs setting; see Operating RTTY.

Scope

Scope Data Output is switched on by wfweb when it connects; nothing to set. The radio's own scope settings (span, reference level, speed) are driven from the page.

LAN rigs

MENU › SET › Network: enable the network, set a user name and password, and give the radio a fixed IP or a DHCP reservation. Those three go on the command line (--lan, --lan-user, --lan-pass). The three UDP ports default to 50001, 50002 and 50003. Network Control must be ON for the radio to accept power-on over LAN.

Power

wfweb can power most Icoms on and off over CI-V. Exception: the IC-7600 accepts power-on only on its [REMOTE] jack, and its USB port goes dead in standby, so powering it off from wfweb over USB means walking to the radio (#104). wfweb warns before it does that.

wfweb never touches the antenna tuner: a tuner that comes back OFF after a power cycle is the radio's own behaviour, not a setting wfweb changed (#139).
