Colombus v0.1.0 - Terminal film browser with desktop widgets
Colombus is a film and series browser that runs entirely in your terminal,
plus a set of always-on-top desktop widgets that can launch with Windows.
Install
- Download
colombus-v0.1.0-win64.zipbelow and extract it anywhere. - Run
colombus.exe.
No setup, no API keys, no .env — the keys are built in.
Keep the whole folder together: the .exe will not run without its
_internal directory beside it.
The bundled TMDB and OMDb keys are shared across everyone using this
build and are rate-limited accordingly. To use your own, set
TMDB_API_KEY (or TMDB_ACCESS_TOKEN) and OMDB_API_KEY as environment
variables, or drop a .env beside the .exe — both override the
built-in values.
What's in it
Browse — search films, series and people; trending by day or week;
browse by genre with filters for industry, rating, decade and sort order.
Details — cast, reviews, episode lists by season, streaming
availability for your region, and posters rendered in the terminal.
Trailers — play them as terminal art with sound, or open them in
your browser.
Track — a watchlist with new-episode alerts, a watched list, and
viewing stats.
Widgets — press f8 (or ctrl+shift+w) to create named widget
profiles. Each one is a small always-on-top panel showing trending
titles, a genre feed, or your watched stats. Any profile can be set to
launch at Windows startup, and each remembers its own position and
transparency.
Fixes in this release
- Widget profiles failed to launch at all: the profile never reached the
widget, and the error was invisible because the process starts with no
console. - The profile editor never loaded a saved profile back into the form, and
cleared the form on every save. - "Watched stats" widgets crashed on every refresh, and separately never
refreshed at all once loaded. - A widget whose saved position was on a monitor that is no longer
attached restored off-screen, looking like it had not launched. --startup-add --startup-profilefailed with a NameError.
Notes
Windows 64-bit. The app needs a terminal that handles Unicode well —
Windows Terminal is a good default. Posters use your terminal's image
protocol where one is available and fall back to block art otherwise.
