Track 2: Experience self‐built AAS on server
AAS is used to describe the assets in standardized and semantically unambigious form. The information about the assets is encapsulated in different submodels.
Through this workshop, the particpants can realise how different submodel templates can be used to describe their asset in different use cases.
For this workshop, the use case of DPP4.0 (also known as ZVEI PCF Control Cabinet) is being used as a reference.
This developer-track focuses on below points:
- Use of Submodel templates
- Fill with product Information
- Deploy your Submodels for your Products
The idea of this track is to get acquainted with different submodel-templates published by IDTA. Using these templates, you will model the AASs for your own product and deploy these AASs in the AAS Ecosystem.

To meet the anticipated requirements for the digital product passport and to demonstrate a viable technical implementation for companies, the Digital Product Passport for Industry 4.0 (DPP4.0) concept was developed. The ZVEI-Show-Case PCF@Control Cabinet illustrates how DPP4.0 can be utilized to calculate the product carbon footprint (PCF) for an integrated system (in this case a control cabinet) comprising a range of products from different manufacturers.
The use case includes
- Distributed AAS Repositories: Repositories store data from the AASs, Submodels and concept descriptions
- AAS Registry: Directories in which AAS IDs and Submodel IDs are stored together with the associated endpoints.
- A PCF client as viewer and calculator
Based on this use case, there are three main tasks in this workshop as below:
- Model an AAS for your product
- Deploy the AAS into one of the AAS repositories
- Add/Remove your component into the Control Cabinet
- Choose a product (an asset) for which you would like to model an AAS.
- Download the Template_AASX_File and open it with the package explorer.
- Use save as to save the file with different name. (Go to File -> Save as...)
- Enable the Edit mode. (Go to Workspace -> Edit)
- Define your own identifiers for following entities (mandatory):
- AAS Id
- AAS IdShort
- AssetInformation/GlobalAssetId
- Submodel Identifiers of all the submodels (Use the button "Rename" to change the identifier.)

Now fill out the information about your asset in the submodels.

Please make sure to change below properties: * Manufacturer Logo * Product Image * Product Name * PCF Value

To add a thumbnail to the AAS
- Click on "Supplemental files"
- On the right panel, select the file to be added, select "Embed as thumbnail" as shown in the screenshot below:
Please note "Target filename" gets automatically filled out.
- Click on "Add file to package". The file gets listed under "Supplemental files".
- Save the AASx file (File -> Save or Ctrl + S)
- Disable the edit mode (Workspace -> Edit) to see the added thumbnail.
- To add a file to any AAS-file element
- Please make sure that you are in the edit mode.
- Select the file element to which you want to add a file.
- On the right panel, in the end, "File -> Supplemental file assistance -> Action", click on "Select source file".
- Once the file is selected, click on "Add or update to AASX"
- Save the AASx file (File -> Save or Ctrl + S)
- Double click on the file element to see the attached file.
Once the AAS is modelled completely, upload the file at https://industrialdigitaltwin.sharepoint.com/:f:/r/sites/TechDays2024-DeveloperTracks/Freigegebene%20Dokumente/AASX%20Files?csf=1&web=1&e=SZM6GF or send it juilee.tikekar@idtwin.org, and contact one of the co-ordinators to deploy it in the repository.
- Create a QR code of the "GlobalAssetId" of your shell.
- Open the scanner app, preferably on mobile and click on Add component.
- Scan the generated QR code of your product.
- The AAS of your product will automatically be added to the Control cabinet. Please check the PCF Viewer for the same.
- Similarly the your product can also be removed from the cabinet.
Note: Please make sure not to remove other products.
- To view the calculated PCF value, please turn the upper right switch of the PCF Viewer as shown in the screenshot below:
