Bug report: VM add Tag issue and VM resume from pause issue

I find out there are two bugs.

1. Adding tag to vm cannot type "." . As I usually using tag to save the IP address. However, I can add "." via PDM but fail in Proxcenter.
2. I can use "Pause" for vm via Proxcenter. However, when I click start. It will fail as it not equal to "Resume". The host will response "The vm already started".

Hi @Kenneat, thanks for the detailed report. I reproduced both issues and they are now fixed in #409 (will ship in the next release).

1. Tags with "." : the tag input was stricter than Proxmox itself. Proxmox's tag format allows letters, digits, "_", "-", "." and "+", which is why "." already works in PDM. The input now accepts "." and "+", so you can store an IP address such as 192.168.1.50 as a tag (this applies to VM tags as well as host and cluster tags).

2. Resume after pause : pausing a VM puts it in a suspended (RAM) state, and Proxmox requires "resume" to bring it back, not "start" (hence the "VM already started" error). The play button now correctly resumes a paused VM. This is fixed everywhere a power control exists: the VM table (including the play/pause toggle), the right-click menus, and the VM detail panel.

Good to hear that are fixed in next version. In addition, may I suggest a functional request? For the icon showing the VM on / off, only use colour red and green is difficult for me to identify. Can the icon work like PDM to become translucent if the VM is off?

Hi @Kenneat, good suggestion, this is now implemented in #411.

The guest icon is dimmed when the VM is off and brightest when it is running, so on/off is readable from the icon brightness itself and no longer depends on the red/green dot alone (the same idea as PDM). It applies in the inventory tree, the table view, and the right-side detail panel.

It will ship in the next release together with the tag and resume fixes mentioned above. Thanks for the thoughtful accessibility feedback!

One more thing but I not sure this is bug or functional required. When I process VM clone on PDM which the VM have snapshot, it allow me to clone the VM using the restore point of the snapshot. However, it seems cannot use on Proxcenter.

Hi @Kenneat, good catch, this is now implemented in #412.

You can now clone a VM from a snapshot's restore point, the same way PDM does. The clone dialog has a new "Clone from" selector: it defaults to the current (live) state and lists the VM's snapshots whenever it has any, so you can pick the restore point to clone from. It works from all three clone entry points (the VM detail panel, the table row action and the right-click menu).

It will ship in the next release together with the tag, resume and dimmed-icon changes mentioned above. Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback!

Hi @Kenneat, glad the fixes are out and happy to help with the upgrade.

Since you are already on a v1.4.x release, ProxCenter is running on PostgreSQL, so moving up to the latest version (v1.4.3) is a simple Docker image refresh, not the full v1.3 to v1.4 cutover. Your data lives in named Docker volumes and survives the upgrade, and the frontend applies any pending database migrations automatically on startup.

(The "Upgrade to v1.4" page at https://docs.proxcenter.io/getting-started/upgrade-v1-4 covers the one-time SQLite to PostgreSQL migration from v1.3.x. You do not need that procedure for a v1.4.x to v1.4.3 bump, the steps below are all you need.)

1. Back up first

Run these from the directory that holds your docker-compose file and your .env:

Configuration and secrets. The .env file is the most important piece: it holds APP_SECRET, the key used to encrypt your stored Proxmox/PBS API tokens, so a database dump cannot be restored without it.

Database dump (users, connections, tenants, settings, RBAC, etc.). Adjust the user and db name if you changed POSTGRES_USER / POSTGRES_DB in your .env:

Optional, full block-level snapshot of the data volumes:

If you pin a version with the VERSION variable in your .env, set it to the release you want (for example VERSION=1.4.3) before pulling. Otherwise it tracks latest.

To roll back, stop the stack and restore the .env and the database dump from the backups above.
