Fork from any transcript message

Create a new branch from any safe user or assistant message, with role-aware behavior across the interactive TUI, dashboard, and RPC API.

What changed

  • Continue from assistant answers. Forking at an assistant message keeps that response and everything before it, with an empty editor ready for the next turn.
  • Rewind and re-ask user prompts. Forking at a user message preserves the existing behavior: branch before the prompt and pre-fill it for editing or re-running.
  • Role-aware selectors. TUI and dashboard fork views now list both user and assistant messages with clear labels and action hints.
  • Safe fork points. Errored, aborted, and unresolved tool-call assistant turns are excluded to prevent incomplete or misleading branch context.
  • RPC and extension consistency. Fork-message responses include roles while session parenting, cancellation, and fork events retain their existing contracts.
  • Tests and documentation. Core branching, TUI, dashboard, RPC, selector rendering, and tree behavior are covered and documented.
