v0.9.0 — FastMCP deprecated
FastMCP support is deprecated and will be removed in a future release. It keeps working in 0.9.0, but now tells you it is on its way out.
Why
FastMCP has not migrated to MCP SDK v2. It still depends on @modelcontextprotocol/sdk v1, so FastMCP projects speak the 2025-era protocol. They also ship without the test suite SDK projects have had since 0.8.0. The Official MCP SDK template is now the better starting point on every axis this CLI cares about.
What changes
- A warning when you generate a FastMCP project. It goes to stderr, so stdout and anything that parses it are untouched. SDK projects print nothing new.
- Marked deprecated in
--help, in the interactive framework prompt, and in the README.
Nothing changes in what gets generated: FastMCP and SDK projects come out exactly as they did in 0.8.0.
If you use FastMCP
New projects should use the default framework:
npx @agentailor/create-mcp-server --name=my-serverIf you need to keep scaffolding FastMCP projects after support is removed, pin this release line:
npx @agentailor/create-mcp-server@0.9 --name=my-server --framework=fastmcpExisting FastMCP projects are unaffected — generated projects pin their own dependencies and never depend on this CLI.
