New
- Zoom for PDFs and comics. Pinch on the trackpad or touch screen, hold the zoom chord on the mouse wheel, or press ⌘= / ⌘− / ⌘0 (Ctrl elsewhere; rebindable in Settings → Shortcuts). The point under your fingers or cursor stays put, and pages zoomed past the window scroll in every direction. Reading appearance lets you choose what 100% means — the page's width or the whole page.
- The percentage shows as you zoom, and while the reader controls are up a zoomed page keeps it on screen with a one-click way back to the fit.
- Each book remembers its zoom and your place on the page on this device, so a zoomed page reopens on the passage you were reading instead of its corner.
- Lock a zoomed view for page turns. In single- and two-page modes, lock the view from the zoom pill or with ⌘L: the wheel, arrow keys and swipes turn pages again, and every page opens on the same part — handy for reading one column of a paper page after page.
- Tables of contents rebuilt for books that barely have one. Sets whose contents list only their volumes, and PDFs without an outline, get a nested contents list recovered from their headings, remembered for the next open. Very long contents lists stay fast.
Improved
- Zoomed pages stay sharp: past the render budget, the visible part of a PDF page is drawn again at full resolution.
- In a paged layout, a zoomed page pans before it turns — the wheel, arrow keys and swipes first move across the page, and a new gesture at its edge turns it.
- Chapters are worked out once for both the reader and the assistant, so chapter summaries of book sets and multi-part books follow the real chapters.
- Large and slightly damaged Kindle (KF8/AZW3) books open reliably, and jumps inside a big bundle take milliseconds instead of seconds.
- Covers, code, wide tables and positioned blocks from the publisher stay inside the text column instead of rendering blank or spilling onto the next page.
- On a cold start the first page appears in your reading font, without flashing the publisher's styles first.
- Backups use the complete encrypted archive only. An old v1
.jsonbackup is recognized and explained instead of being reported as a wrong password.
Fixed
- EPUB covers named by file path (for example Refactoring) now appear on the shelf.
- A book whose cover never reached this device — with sync off, or after a restore — gets it back from the book file here.
- Jumping with the progress bar while a chapter change was still animating no longer gets lost.
- A sync upload over your storage quota no longer removes the copy already stored.
- Local storage recovers by itself after an internal error instead of failing until restart, and a chat's messages are saved in one step.
- Exports on mobile are written only to the location you chose in the save dialog.
